I was hesitant because 1. I can't buy it in stores near me 2. You have to buy the color cream, the activator and the tools needed to mix and apply it separately. I was worried about the hassle, the cost and if it was really that much better than a store brand. It definitely is! I bought 2 tubes of color cream; a dark red and dark espresso, 1 bottle of activator and 1 starter tools set. All 4 items cost me around $40. You mix only what you need in the bowl, so I did my underside red and my top side brown. I have long hair and still have plenty leftover for touch ups or root coverage. It's been more than month now and I still have good color, no noticeable fade out and no roots showing yet. No greys!!! I dont see my color running down the drain with every wash like some drug store brands. With a store brand I would have needed 2 boxes and I usually pay around $10/box roughly. But I usually see fadeout and roots showing after 30days or so. So, the Wella brand is more expensive but i got better, longer lasting color and with the leftover product my color will last even longer. If you're using this product I would recommend that you also invest in a good quality deep conditioner. Like all dyes it's very damaging and without some repair your hair will feel like straw. Review: Looks nice on hair, easy to work with - Im not a skilled hair stylist but working with Wella to dye my mom’s hair was quite easy. You have to buy the developer separately(stick with color tango brand like they mention in the packaging. You never know if the formula for the hair color only works well with the same brand/line. Play it safe), we got the volume 20 one. Both the hair color and developer were in total less than 15 dollars. For a permanent hair color from a brand like Wella, that’s pretty affordable. You do have to really read the instructions and follow through correctly to get the best results. We mixed equal parts of the hair dye and the developer (give or take 21-24 grams of each) and applied it all over her gray hairs. It stayed in for 35 minutes. The final result was a vibrant brown with dimension and gloss. Keep in mind, my mom’s hair is processed and thin. Yet the dye really elevated the look. For anyone that’s never worked with hair dye before, keep in mind this does look orange when it comes out of the tube. I was 4N dark brown and got feeling frisky. My brown pic is where I started. I initially wanted to go blonde! Tried the loreal hi lift and it was a disaster. No lift but hot roots! Did a color oops and one round of bleach. I had missed spots to platinum spots. Yikes! I decided to cut my losses and go with the flow. I really wanted a copper red and I actually got something right with this color! I used it with a 6 vol developer and left it on 45 minutes. It did a great job of covering my mistakes, my grays, but it didn't look homogeneous. My light and dark areas blended in with depth. My hair is permed as well and I was really worried about damage. Even at the wash out didn't feel bad. Did an Ion deep conditioner and oooh so soft! Really doesn't look like it's been triple processed. The 6 volume developer worked well for me and saved some damage I'm sure. Great color thar will turn out very vibrant if going over lighter browns/dark blondes. In the picture it's still a little damp.
