My health care provider recommended it to me when I showed an interest in bettering my health and trying to loose weight. While some parts are a bit dry and detailed, most of it was understandable reading. If you're ready for a change in your life, health and weight this will push you over, if you're not ready you probably aren't even reading this review. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Non-biased View *by B***K on Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2014* I picked up "Grain Brain" by David Perlmutter because I was intrigued by his arguments that a human brain deteriorates in some respects when carbs are a part of the person's diet. A friend told me about it, and as I'm always interested in books on nutrition, I thought I'd check it out. Well, Dr. Perlmutter makes some valid points--perhaps--and does back up his claims with official studies, but until I picked up this summary, I had no idea that he refused to acknowledge or discuss the multitude of contradictory sources of information out there. This summary offers a non-biased approach to Perlmutter's theories, and it also does a great job of emphasizing the key points this neurologist is trying to make. The author is a neurologist who makes the claim that carbohydrates slowly cause neurological damage. He supports his theory with information about how the body responds to metabolizing grains and what happens when people have grain intolerances. I’m skeptical of any health book that seems to villainize one eating choice, type of food, etc. Especially since the whole “gluten free” movement is so incredibly popular right now. This review brings up many valid points including the absence of response to opposing studies. Its clear from the tone that this review is not very favorable for the actual book, however, it does provide a breakdown of each chapter.
