Review: Excellent within its limits - I bought this to cure exhaust putty and it did the job perfectly. To be clear this is overpriced if you can use any other heat gun. If like me however you need it where there are no wall sockets or in tight to reach places (under a car) then this is worth its weight in gold. Its not the hottest heat gun I've used but it is suffieicient for most things, and it heats up really quickly. For the exhaust repair I managed to keep heat on for about 5 minutes and still had one bar of battery left on a 4Ah. Whilst this wasnt enough to cure the putty completely it was enough to cure the outer layers and finish the job off by idling the car. in short, this heat gun is excellent for when you cant use a wall powered heat gun, and as long as you are aware of its limits. Review: Handy tool - I use this mostly for heat shrink and it works really well. It produces plenty of heat for this, even when used outside. It is fixed on full. **Q: Does this include the battery??** A: No, it contains the heat gun but no battery or charger. Ryobi generally mark products sold without the battery or charger as "Body Only". You'll need a very hefty battery, 5mAh most likely to get anything approaching a useful run time with this tool **Q: What is this suitable for? paint stripping? moulding plastic pipe? is it hot enough for serious work? reviews are good but it's not cheap** A: In my opinion as a carpenter of 35 yrs experience its not good for water based paints and even oil based paints will depend on the number of applied layers, how long they've been there or they're keyed to the surface. I stripped a door lining the weekend and it took over an hour with this tool. This gun only really softens the paint, just enough to get a scraper underneath. It won't burn the paint more like blister if you know what I mean. Apparently it works better/hotter with the narrow nozzle on it, which I did. I've used it for heating/softening bitumen flashing as well. 5 and 6ah genuine Makita batteries last between 20 & 30mins so have some ready. I love it, to me it was cheap. I am a Makita fan which I could have bought but I can't justify the price for odd weekends' use. I use it mainly for heatshrink work and it's perfect for that. The con, of course is that a battery providing up to 450 degrees of heat isn't going to do it for long - only the brushed Ryobi grinder chews through batteries more quickly.
