Review: A CODDLED EGG IS NOT POACHED! - I just finished breakfast, I had hash browns, sausage, and perfectly coddled eggs. It was delicious! Let's get something straight, folks: CODDLING IS DIFFERENT FROM POACHING! That means you can COMPLETELY disregard those reviews whining that these egg CODDLERS don't POACH eggs well. Of course they don't! They're not supposed to! You might as well expect your pop-up toaster to make homemade French toast or your tea kettle to fry bacon. What these Jenaer Egg Coddlers DO is to make perfectly coddled eggs OUTSIDE an egg shell. Butter the coddler, crack the egg(s) into it, add a little seasoning if you'd like, plunge them into simmering water for the correct time, and—WOO HOO! Perfectly coddled eggs. These are SUPERB TOOLS for that task—the best I've ever used (better even than the nice porcelain Royal Worcester ones I own). If you really love a perfectly coddled egg, then don't hesitate to buy these. They are ideal! They are wonderful! They are perfect! They clean up in seconds! They're made of borosilicate glass! If you're looking for poached eggs, however, look elsewhere. Moreover, if you think you really belong in the kitchen, learn the difference between the coddling and poaching before you spout off and demonstrate your ignorance!
Review: beautifully designed, and a pleasure to use - This is a lovely thing, beautifully designed, and a pleasure to use. Butter it, add eggs (I used three; two would have been a better choice), season, add a dollop of cream, cover, place in a saucepan of simmering water (water should come below the lip of the jar), and cook for about seven minutes. Less or more, depending on how you like your eggs -- experiment. Lift out of water, remove the clip that holds the lid closed, you may need to gently use the tip of a butter-knife to pry the lid off, and enjoy your eggs. That said, coddling is a cooking method. This is a piece of kitchen equipment that makes it easier to use that method. I suspect that you could coddle eggs in a buttered coffee mug, with a saucer balanced on top to cover it. Awkward, but I think it would work. But if there's room in your kitchen cupboards for these, go for it. I am all about my toys. Next, I'm going to see how making custard in these will work, maybe a savory Japanese chawan mushi......

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ medium size egg coddler
*by F***G on July 14, 2021*

So these are "medium size" and will hold 2 eggs - traditionally you coddle one egg in a smaller cup, but this will work. Remember "coddled" eggs are NOT poached. They are delicious alternative to poaching or other water cooking. Rub the inside of the coddler with generous amount of softened butter or olive oil. Seal the lid top and place in boiling water pan (water below the lip of the coddler). Cook per your desired temperature. Around 10 minutes if you prefer a hard cooked egg - or around 5 if you like a more loose yolk - even less if you like a very runny yolk.. Scoop out with a small spoon or dip with toast sticks. It's a real treat. These coddlers are very nice because they are clear glass and go right into the dishwasher. The metal clasps securely hold the lid on which is very important (you don't want water in the coddle) - and are easy to remove with a towel (they will be hot when they come out of the boiling water). The only negative I will report is that the add clearly states it is a set of two. I only got one. Had a "replacement" order placed and again only got one. So eventually I got the set of 2 but it was hassle. Having said all that, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.
