The pattern is molded on the inside of the glass, but it is a shallow, smooth pattern that will not hold mineral deposits or anything else. The pattern adds to the sparkle. The bottoms are very heavy, which I like, especially in this curved shape in which the bottom is the narrowest part of the glass. The reason I did not give them 5 stars is that one cannot reach very far into the glass when cleaning.
