## Description

desertcart.com: Opalescence 35% CP Mint - Gel Syringes Teeth Whitening - Refill Kit - Carbamide Peroxide Gel. Made by Ultradent. Tooth Whitening Refill Syringes 5197 (0.04 Fl Oz (Pack of 8)) : Health & Household

Review: Excellent but take caution as it can cause chemical burn on gums - Recently I decided to take care of my oral and dental hygiene. After visiting the dentist and having some fillings carried out I asked him whether my teeth could be whitened and how much the cost was. He replied yes and the bill was around £300! Not exactly small potatoes. Whilst I had no inclination whether the price was reasonable at the time I decided to do some research and try out certain products. I have tried the Crest strips a year or so ago and unfortunately they did very little after buying 2 weeks worth supplies and whitening every day. Upon further research it was mentioned that the active agent would be neutralized with saliva so the whitening effect wouldn't be as effective as a professional job. All it would do is froth up in your mouth and not produce noticeable results. This led me to having custom dental trays made from Ebay where they send you some putty for you to make a mould of your teeth and you send it back for them to make custom dental trays. I then ordered some Opalescence 35% from desertcart USA. EU laws unfortunately require anything over 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide can only be carried out by dentists so I was forced to take that route. Not knowing how much I would need I just bought a 3 pack. Each pack contains 4 syringes. Also since I was going to get stung by customs which I paid for in advance during checkout I took the gamble and bought extra just in case they gave good results. In order to quantify any difference I bought a basic tooth shade guide of Ebay. I started of at a shade 9-10 (My teeth still had intrinsic tar stains from my smoking days and heavy tea stains. We Brits love tea) I finished at a shade of 2 (I only used 5 syringes to get this result. Amazing! Dazzling! Very Joey Essex lol). I decided that this was bright/white enough. Anymore then I would look like Ross from Friends. Please bear in mind monitors and taking camera pictures may distort the colours. I did not add any extra artificial effects, ISO were the same, no exposure was added but due to the difference in lighting the F stops may have been different. Pictures were taken 5 days after whitening treatment so there is no dehydration on the teeth which produce fake whiter results. I was able to use one syringe to do two treatments which I did every second day if my gums needed time to heal or my teeth were too sensitive. Prior to receiving the Opalescence I rubbed vitamin E oil onto my gums, twice a day. As long as you don't overfill the dental trays there should be minimal "spillage" onto the gums that cause chemical burn. I did find that my gums went white when spillage happened and it did cause chemical burn but it healed after a day. My pain threshold is quite high so I was able to bear it but I did give time to heal until I started treatment again. The whitening agent I could hear gently fizzing away slightly during treatment so I knew that it was doing it's magic. Common sense is just involved, if gums hurt then give it time to heal and using vitamin E which is an anti inflammatory does wonders. My whitening treatment contained 35% carbamide peroxide which is around 14% hydrogen peroxide so if it causes excessive pain then reduce the treatment time. I could only bear 30 mins at the beginning but after the second syringe I was able to withstand an hour session. The longer the whitening agent stays on your teeth the more it will be able to break down the bonds of molecules that cause stain. To combat the inevitable tooth sensitivity I used GC tooth moose which also remineralizes teeth and brushed my teeth with Biorepair plus toothpaste. Sensodyne Pronamel works equally well in repairing enamel. Things like Blue plasma lights are a placebo. They do nothing and research has proved it. You can buy a cheap one from Ebay for £3 for psychological assurance but trust me not worth wasting money on (I bought one and it did nothing). I have 6 syringes left and plenty to retouch my teeth over the year or longer to maintain brightness/whiteness. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome but would advise that anyone who wants to go down the DIY route sees a Dental professional first during their checkup and ask whether their teeth is in good condition for whitening treatment. Edit on Novermber 12th 2016. This product has a shelf life of 2 years if refrigerated. I came back to re-do my whitening after 11 months and the potency of the product has reduced greatly from when I first bought it. They were kept refrigerated as specified but don't seem to work as well as when I first received them. So buyer beware if you intend to buy in bulk and store them.
Review: Fast, Effective, and Long-lasting Results - Love this stuff. Fast acting and effective! I use it on both sides of my front teeth for better results or when I can't get them past a certain level of whitens. (I often get compliments on how white my teeth are:))

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this help dark stained teeth. What is the time frame of completion.**
A: The key to tray whitening is consistently using the product day after day, or every other day if sensitivity is a significant problem, until you get the desired results. This is literally the product my dentist sold me from his office. It has a consistency that it will provide a thick, sticky substance. It is best to use professionally developed whitening trays versus and other method. If the stains are gray in color, they do not respond as well to whitening, but staining from coffee and soft drinks or smoking, it absolutely will. If you have no experience with whitening, you may want to start out with a lower percentage of the active ingredient carbamide peroxide -- otherwise, if you have healthy teeth and do have have professional whitening trays and little history of any extreme sensitivity or gum problems, you may safely use this product but you may want to use for less time to start out as you become accustomed. A majority of the other products sold for whitening are cheaply made, watery in consistency, and are more likely to drain from the trays and burn your gums (which is incredibly uncomfortable, especially if you have not tolerance for it). There are stronger preparations, although I do not believe Opalescence carries it for at-home use, that offer 44% and while these allow for shorter wear times, they really should be used under the supervision of a dentist. Other products do not contain potassium nitrate and fluoride to reduce the chances of sensitivity or the sensitivity that you do experience, which is a predictable outcome of dental whitening, as you are literally applying an oxidating agent to your teeth that seeps into your animal and oxidizes, sweeping away the stain, and as such, whitening can be hard on the enamel, so the fluoride will help remineralize your teeth while also whitening them (almost akin to holding a ladder for someone climbing the ladder -- while you are not climbing the ladder, you're still helping). I highly recommend that you ask your dentist for a prescription for Prevident which contains 1% fluoride solution that you can brush with or brush with your regular toothpaste, rinse, and brush with Prevident or leave on -- or brush with Prevident and rinse and then brush again and leave it on. You can also purchase Gel Kam which is a half-strength formula available without a prescription but it is a gel and note a paste. You can use it after brushing and leave it on your teeth prior to bed or you can use it in whitening trays but be careful not to overfil or it will burn your gums (somewhat uncomfortable) following treatment. Finally, in dealing with sensitivity which I know diverges from your question (I just believe there is so much more to this than simply whether or not it will help with dark stained teeth), you can purchase a reminalizing gel on Amazon that will contain potassium nitrate that should help with sensitivity and provide protection.

The amount of time that you have to use the product will depend on a number of factors, such as how often you use the product, how long you wear it for, the shade of your teeth, your desired result. You will notice results rather quickly but whether or not you are happy with those results will determine how long you whiten them. You can go too far, however, and teeth, which are translucent, will take on a blue-ish tint and look unnature and unhealthy.

I wanted to provide these points for anyone out there who is hoping to whiten their teeth to help them understand what it is they are taking on. I realize the original post is from 2014 and he or she has almost certainly has acquired the answer. I may have wasted my time as there are several other answers that are shorter and more to the point, but if this helps anyone, it's worth it.

**Q: what is the bleach?**
A: This was recommended by my dentist. It is a high % but you only need a drop placed inside the personal dental molds. You wear it for only 30 to 60 mins. Do this every couple days. Give up the smokes, brush after coffee and red wine. Then smile...smile...smile!

**Q: Does this product use 15% carbamide peroxide -or- 15% hydrogen peroxide as the whitening agent?**
A: I just looked at my bleach syringe and it's 15% carbamide peroxide. This is "Professional" grade whitening gel. I originally got this product from my dentist, along with my bleaching trays. My dentist sells a 4-pack for $40, so this a great deal! I only purchase this gel from Amazon. A helpful hint: my dental office says to store the unused bleach in the frig, to preserve/prolong freshness. I hope this helps you.

**Q: Do you brush your teeth first**
A: Yes, you brush your teeth first, floss, no mouthwash, apply Opalescence PF 35% between 1 or 2 hrs if you can stand it (I do ). When I am done, take outtrays I clean them softly with the toothbrush, rinse your mouth only 2 or 3 times to get the access gel off, no mouth wash. 2 things I have found out,Relief ACP is a gel almost like the whitening one but this is to soothe your gums and teeth sensitivity and it is great because it actually makes your teethshine. Right after I whiten, rinse, I put the Relief ACP in the trays and keep them up for an hour. Also Colgate has a special toothbrush called Floss Tip Bristles, it is extremely soft bristles and it is great in case your gums are sore or burn, great investment. One more Tip Using Rembrandt Deeply White mouthwash will actually help remove wine, cigarette, and other dark fluids that may stainyour teeth in between whitenings. Good Luck !!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love my pearly whites! 😁
*by B***. on July 6, 2016*

This product truly does work and whitens your teeth very quickly! People are CONSTANTLY complimenting my smile and asking me how I keep my teeth so white. Mind you, I am a smoker and I drink coffee and tea all day long. I initially paid $400 at my dentist to get the professional trays that are a mold of my teeth and 8 syringes of this stuff. When used properly, it should last you a *minimum* of 2 months after DAILY use. It goes a long way, but I didn't realize how badly I was being ripped off! After finding it here on Amazon for this price, I was ecstatic! I immediately ordered it and have been using it since. There's absolutely no difference between this one and the one my dentist gave me, so I know it's the real deal. The only downside of this is that just like with most whitening solutions, your teeth do feel sensitive for a day or so after using. There were a couple of times I fell asleep with the mouth trays still on, and woke up in the morning to SEVERE sensitivity- but that was my fault since you're only supposed to leave it on for one hour. However, the super bad sensitivity only lasted one day. Also, don't use too much to where it's oozing out onto your gums because it burns like hell when it sits on your gums for a while! (Use only a tiny drop per tooth.) I got a remineralization gel here on Amazon, which is supposed to help with the sensitivity post-bleaching and it's made a world of a difference! As for the opalescence, I apply a small dot of the bleach closer to the bottom of each tooth on the tray that touches the front side of my teeth (so that it doesn't touch my gums when it spreads), and leave it on for about 1 hour before bedtime. I do it every night until I get the results I want, and then just maintain by using it for a 3-4 days in a row each month. (That's just my personal preference though, since like I mentioned, I smoke and drink tea and coffee every day so my teeth get stained rather quickly). Anyway, I can absolutely say that I truly do recommend opalescence to anyone who needs their teeth whitened. It WILL work, just remember that a little goes a long way!
