It's worse in the winter, and worse if I shower twice a day. My dermatologist recommended Vanicream soap. That works well in that it doesn't cause eczema no matter how much I shower. But, it doesn't feel like it cleans very well and it leaves behind a slippery residue. I tried many different soaps and this Grandpa's Pine Tar is the best. It actually gets your skin very clean---even after a day digging out tree stumps or an intense Jiu Jitsu class. But it doesn't cause eczema and doesn't leave a greasy residue. I actually think it makes eczema go away, but I can't prove that. Personally, I love the smell. It smells like a campfire to me. My wife doesn't mind it, but she thinks it smells a bit like asphalt. But it can't be that bad, because she uses it when she gets eczema! I usually use it below the neck, but it's fine to wash your face with. It won't dry out your face or give you acne. And, it is actually great on beards. I've washed my hair with it, but it seems to build up some residue over time, so I don't recommend using it as a daily shampoo. Stick to below the forehead.
