The prongs in the removable water reservoir has magnets built in the bottoms so that it makes a solid, no wriggle connection to the base--very good feature so you lesson the chance of burning yourself with scalding water! Don't wait for a cheap one, it's wroth the $20 more! **Q: For those few of who have found cracks, leaks etc later after usage. What's the likelihood you might have used water that was too hot?** A: Mine cracked on the third cup. And the water is boiling water from a tea kettle.
