This manual tries to be everything to all ... *by S***K on Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2015* For those of you looking for a repair manual on a Johnson outboard, do yourself a favor and find the specific original Johnson shop manual for your motor. This manual is very poorly printed, the pictures are so blurry as to be useless. This manual tries to be everything to all the different motors in this HP and year range and does nothing well.In addition, the instructions are at best ambiguous, and make reference to certain motor conditions such as referring to a tune up procedure based on the Amperage output of your motor, but fail to list your motor and or the Amperage output of your motor. In addition when I scoured the internet trying to determine the amp output of my motor it was listed as different as what this book referenced. This resulted in complete confusion.And I am not non-mechanically inclined, quite the opposite, I am a journeyman machinist, certified welder and registered diesel mechanic, in addition I am certified in HVACR, and certified for pools and spas. So I have done mechanical work in a variety of mechanical fields all my life.This is my first go around with Outboard motors and they are different from other motors you may have worked on. You need specific information and accurate information in order to set up, time and synchronize these motors. This book is much to ambiguous to offer helpful informationI then had the opportunity to speak with a seasoned marine mechanic and he confirmed what I am saying here, these books try to cover too many different motor and do nothing well or accurately. His advice to me was the same advise I am giving here, if you want to repair your outboard yourself and have the necessary information to do so, get the original service manual from the original manufacturer.
