Only use on the fretboard. General rule, if it is Rosewood, Ebony, or other similar dark woods then it probably isn't finished. However Rickenbacker does finish their fretboards, usually Rosewood, If you look at a Rickenbacker picture you'll see it is very glossy and looks "Finished" whereas others don't. If the fretboard is Maple (light color wood), again you'll see a shiney finish on it. DO NOT use of Maple or finished woods. Again I repeat, this is for the fretboard not the entire neck. Hope this helps. **Q: Good for an ebony board?** A: Great for all types of board especially ebony because it keep that dark color and great tone while making the board feel softer and smooth while playing **Q: I used this on an epiphone lp and now my fingerboard smells like fish! has anyone else experienced this?** A: Your oil went rancid. It got bacteria in it or it is over three years old. It smells like lemons if fresh. Its organic oil so it can go rancid. That is why it smelled horrible.
