It is 100% cotton.This shirt just arrived and we have not worn it much, nor washed it. If any issues arise I will come back and revise. For now, this is to state that the shirt is basically what we'd expect for a large shirt in flannel. The tail and the sleeves are long relative to the width of the body, but not so much as to be annoying.This "Anthracite" color pattern is even more attractive in person than in the photo; very dark black, will be interesting to see if it holds up in the wash. Also note that the flannel is a fairly light weight, no more than medium weight, so you won't be outside chopping wood in it. But fine for layering or indoor wear. The XL is right size for my measurements. The most important size is the arm length and the chest size and no worries for the rest of the fit. The shirt is looser, softer material, not as crisp as a casual business shirt. A typical plaid shirt with a softer material blend. Washed it a couple times in cold water and slightly warm water and detected no shrinkage. The shirt might require occassional ironing but wearing the shirt smooths out any slight wrinkles except for the collar. The shirt (size M) fits pretty much as expected - I always wear a Medium and this fits fine, not baggy but with a bit of room. Not a modern fit, slim shirt, which is fine with me. The arms are a little too long for me (my arm length is 32-33) but not enough to worry about. The workmanship seems good: no loose buttons, a few stray threads typical of a manufactured garment, seams all straight. Well made! The colors aren't quite as bright in person as they seem online; more subdued, which isn't bad, just not quite what I expected; at first I was thinking of returning it. But once I tried it on, it was so comfortable that the colors began to look nicer by the second. It's a good, classic, comfortable American flannel shirt.
