My doorways are a little too wide for them, by 3/4 inch, so I use wall nannys to make them fit. They're not easy to install (takes maybe 15 minutes), but once they're in, they're good. The door stays open if you open it all the way. The bar on the bottom is flat enough that it's not much of a trip hazard. The locking mechanism feels sturdy. The flat step was the reason I gravitated towards this item because in the past at other people’s houses I would always hate the step over. I would say be mindful of your door frame because this gate only fits the standard door otherwise you need to purchase additional extensions. Install was very easy you literally just put it on the door frame and twist the knobs in. The handle to Open and close is hard to use at first my brother says it’s “adult proof” but I don’t have a problem with it and my 9 year old nephews are able to open and close it just fine.
