He chose these as his favorite color is red.The shoe fits as it should, it's hard to keep it on my kid because he has skinny feet and the Velcro only gets so tight. This happens on all shoes that aren't laced up.When they arrived, I was happy to see they had an on/off button. This would be great so he could turn them off at school and also help save the batteries.After approx. 3 weeks of wearing these just to school, my son showed me a few lights on the left shoe had gone out. As most of them still worked, I told him not to worry about it as it was bound to happen.After about 6 weeks of wearing them, I noticed that only one shoe was lighting up. I told him to turn them both on and he said they were already both on. I hit the button and nothing. They usually flash a few times to let you know they're on. The lights had all gone out! Only 6 weeks of regular kid wear (no regular sports or extreme conditions) and one shoe was now lightless. I expected the lights to stop working eventually but not so soon.The right shoe works fine and all the little lights still light up.I emailed Sketchers asking what I could to do fix this problem. Three weeks later I got an email apologizing for the delay but they had a lot of customer queries and they were behind. That was over a month ago and I still haven't heard a thing.Last week my son told me there was a hole in the bottom of his shoe. Well my 6yr old tends to exaggerate and I thought maybe there was a deep dent. Nope, it was a hole. The rubber sole had already worn through and the plastic framework type structure that the lights appeared to be in was open. both shoes had this problem. My son is of average height and weight and doesn't do anything that would cause unusual wear on these shoes.So it's barely three months after I purchased these shoes, one no longer lights up and they both have holes in the bottom. For the same price I paid, I could have purchased some Nike or Adidas or another name brand that has quality behind it. (I did think Sketchers were quality before I purchased these)I would definitely not purchase these for my kids at full retail price, perhaps half price. All kids wear shoes, especially sneakers. These, I thought, were a bit pricey; now, I believe, I definitely got my money's worth. I bought a red pair and a green pair for my twin, 5 year old, grandsons who saw the commercial on TV and begged Grandma for them. I can still hear the high pitched squeals as they saw and opened the boxes. They couldn't get the packing out fast enough for them to put on -- and then they found the switch to "turn on" the plentiful, bright colored lights. Then the search was on to find a dark room in the house so they could watch their feet glow. This, then, turned into a "rehearsal" for the "Laser Shoe Show." The family was invited to attend and the boys put on a show with their glowing feet involving gymnastics, karate moves, jumps, and more. What seemed like an ordinary shoe purchase turned into being a creative spark that spurred little imaginations into actions. What surprising results!! Buy! Buy! These have held up pretty well so far to their first week of intense abuse.
