    FAULTY POWER DRAW

*by H***O on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 16, 2020*

Well packaged and of good quality. It's also LONGER (30 feet vs 25 feet) than cables I can get from other manufacturers (although Mustart makes an extension). They told me they are the only company with an all copper construction. However, the first company I contacted about this, Mustart, also tells me that they use 100% copper construction for the cable. So hyperbole? or did I just reach the only other company that does all copper construction? Dunno? They also said they are the only one made in the US, Mustart is made in China. While it can go up to 40 amps it auto detects and responds to the car so that it doesn't have to draw at 40 amps. I have used the cable without problem for 40 days and then noticed that it is drawing TOO much power so that it reads 44-46 AMPS causing a fault and STOPPING the charge process after about 15 minutes. This happens even when the car says it is receiving 40 AMPS (or at best 42 AMPS). The circuit we are using is a 50 amp circuit and the unit is supposed to know to draw only what it needs. In this case it is clearly drawing too much power. When I set the Tesla to use 32 AMPS that the charger intermittently registers 34-38 AMPS. Since this is LESS than the 40 amps it is probably okay, but this shouldn't happen at all. The Tesla never registers an amperage as high as what the cable says. So either there is a LOT of current loss (likely caused by higher resistance somewhere in the PROCOM cable) in the cable so that the cable monitor actually is receiving a significantly HIGHER amperage or one of the two AMP measurements is WRONG (Tesla drawing more power than it thinks it is or Procom saying it's current is higher than it actually is). Since the unit is actually FAULTING (meaning it is likely getting hot) I would guess that there really is a higher current draw (ultimately verified by measuring later from the panel).Procom did not respond to initial queries through the Amazon support system, but I did finally reach them through a customer service number. They are saying that the problem is a Tesla software issue that causes the car to draw up to 48 amps when it is set to only draw 40 amps. Presumably a software update from Tesla will fix this and I have asked Tesla about it and will update accordingly if and when this is fixed. After numerous updates and a LOT of time with Tesla service, I was advised the problem is NOT the car. Procom continues to insist that it was a car issue, but that it's fixed now (presumably with updates). However, after a few weeks we again see the same problem. ProCom replaced the unit and even the new unit draws MORE power than it should. They advised me that the cable I returned did not show any faults and seems to work fine with their outlets.Their new theory was that the outlet is bad. I paid an electrician I trust to install it. I had to pay him to come back and double check it. He verified it was set-up correctly. However, he showed me using a very expensive amp meter that the unit is drawing 4-6 amps above what it should, by measuring the draw directly from the panel. I was told that the by the PROCOM that he must have used a low quality amp meter, but verified that he actually uses the same one they use. I was then told that he likely used poorer gauge copper wire, he actually used better wire. I was told the circuit is probably too long, it is less than 1 foot from the panel. Finally, the company offered to send their own electrician insisting the problem is NOT with their unit and that something is wrong with my circuit. By now having spent countless hours trying to prove SOMEONE ELSE is at fault, I decided to call it quits and send the cable back. They gave me a full refund, but never told me what if anything they found was wrong with the second cable (they insist the first cable returned showed no faults). They also warned me that my electrical outlet MUST be bad and that if this is the case it will ultimately cause other cables to fail.I have no explanation for this, but after 3 months of using a Mustart 40AMP cable and a Mustart 32 AMP cable (we have 2 EV cars) I have NOT seen the problem occur again. The Mustart cables, NEVER registered amperage as high as the PROCOM. Of course PROCOM insists that they have more accurate amp detection and so register higher. All I know is that if your circuit is rated higher than 40 AMPS (mine is 50 AMPS) and you are getting the 30 foot cable that you might have the same issue I did. However, if you run the cable at a lower amperage you should be okay, but then why pay for a 40 amp cable?Could they be right that there is something faulty in my circuit?I hope not, so far so good. If it never faults, I would have to guess that increased resistance (perhaps from the length of the cable or something with the cable monitor unit itself) requires a higher current at the cable monitor to deliver the desired current requested by the car. I've not seen anyone else have this problem, so hopefully I'm the only one. So after 6 months I have to say that at this point in my hands PROCOM 30 foot 40 amp cables have a power draw issue.

    Great quality product

*by S***P on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 14, 2020*

Received the level2 charging unit on time, well packaged. I installed the cradle and plug holder, which was excellent. The unit functions great and now within few short hours I get full charge. The quality and workmanship of the product is very high, very solid and tough. The only item that took me a day or two to figure out was the charging delay setting (at beginning I thought it does not work). Per enclosed instructions, have to press the leaf logo once then twice and so on... to set the 2 hr, 4 hr, 6 hr delay. Instructions was not clear on small detail of; one must look at the tiny LCD display, focusing on the yellow writing that says "DLY", then as you press on the logo (which does not feel like much of pressing, it's tight) the "DLY 0" changes to "DLY 2" and so on... On fourth press it goes back to 0.Hope by the time I buy my second electric car they still sell this unit, as I have two 220V plugs in my garage.Review update:Using PRIMECOM for 2 years on a Honda Clarity worked fine drawing 30A at maximum. BUT right after I started using it on my new Mustang Mach-e, that draws 40A, the charger cable got; not warm but HOT. Not good at all. after 3 times of use, it started to stop charging after 5 minutes. Luckily the internal protection circuit in PRIMECOM killed the power with error of short circuit detected..! It repeated 3 more time during same charging cycle, where I had to unplug and plug back. After further investigation, I confirmed the charger should not get Hot, but only mildly warm. So I'm throwing this $500 + charger into trash, before my garage catches fire.

Not Perfect But Good Customer Support More Than Makes Up For It

*by A***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 12, 2019*

I like that you are able to switch from 16 to 30 to 40 amps. The length of 30 feet is also just about perfect for switching between either of our plug-in vehicles inside our garage. My only gripe is that the connection to the vehicle charging point is too tight. I have to wiggle while pulling/pushing with some force. Sometimes I wonder if I pushed it in all the way. However, when I provided that feedback to the seller, they responded promptly and offered to replace my unit, which they did.
