It covers many different aspects of running a bar or club, such as what type business to start, market research, location, filling out paperwork, bar layout, buying equipment, operations, entertainment, marketing, financial management, and more. At 196 pages long I sometimes felt like the book needed to be longer to cover all of its topics, so I'm going to read other small business guide books as well. For instance, in the chapter on financial management, the authors emphasize the importance of developing good income statements, balance sheets, and cash-flow statements, but don't tell how to create these or where to find them. However, this book does give a lot of specific information on running a bar or club, and also has a lot of first-hand advice, including many quotes from people who have created successful bars and clubs. There also are several worksheets and forms that are helpful, such as a mission statement worksheet, a brief startup expenses worksheet, interview questions for bartenders, pre-employment tests for bartenders and servers, a tax registration for alcohol and tobacco, an EIN application, and so on. Also, the book is fun to read since it's written in a conversational style that does not tend to turn into dry reading.Actually, I personally was disappointed to find that START YOUR OWN BAR & CLUB heavily emphasizes the bar aspect, meaning a place that serves alcoholic beverages. I'm planning to open an exotic dance club, and am uncertain whether I'll be serving any alcoholic beverages, but this book does NOT specifically have information on exotic dance clubs. In fact, the terms "exotic dance club" or "strip club" do not appear even ONCE in the text! I would have thought that those would be a subset of "nightclubs," which is listed on the front cover. Nevertheless, many aspects of opening a bar are also pertinent to opening an exotic dance club, so I still found the book quite helpful. But there were many times that the authors made some statement about bars and I wondered whether the same was also true of exotic dance clubs.If you're thinking of opening a bar or club (of most types), START YOUR OWN BAR & CLUB would probably be very helpful to you in conjunction with one or more other small business books (Entrepreneur Press, who published this book, has a general business book from 2010 called  Start Your Own Business, Fifth Edition: The Only Start-Up Book You'll Ever Need ). However, if you're thinking of opening an exotic dance club (a.k.a.
