They are not that hard to clean and stainless steel means less chance for bacterial growth. I also like the bent ones so it's easy for your child to drink from (but these straight ones are perfect for my 4 year old). The first time my daughter used it, I could tell she was confused... These are amazing - I wish I'd bought them years ago. I love that they are better for the environment versus using disposable straws. They are really a nice width (a tad wider than McDonald straws), and a nice length. I really had my doubts how I'd feel about using a stainless steel straw, but I'm very happy with them.
