Review: New Product that I hope stays. - Received my pencils earlier than was supposed to. They came in a nice silver tin with 2 plastic trays. Had a hard time finding out answers about these pencils and finely the Company that makes them. Finely received answers. These pencils are wax based and they have been lightfast tested just hasn't got info together to show whether on pencils or site. The colors are brite but really limited except on greys. Not very many pastels either. Colors close to Arteza and Koor I noor. There is a crumbling problem, instead of large chunks coming out these just crumble and some all the way to the color caps, but is limited to certain colors. Other colors have had no breakage. Hope these colors can be replaced. Have let the company know and the company that sells them will let me know. Will update about after I get info These are not real soft or hard. They keep a point, even arrive with one. Color lays down smooth and rich in color. Layer pretty good and blend okay. It can be worked with. They are not as hard as the Artists by Derwent. I'd say Medium. Not as hard as Tombow pencils. There are colors I love. They have names no numbers and color caps not the same as leads though some come close. Would definately buy again if it had more colors. There is a small amount of dust and I mean small, haven't had any smudging. Replaced damaged pencils. Hope they will get their good reviews to continue making them then larger sets.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these watercolor pencils for $28.29? these are listed as winsor & newton precision pencils graphic sketching pencils assorted in metal box 24**
A: There may be a merchant providing at this price, but others may sell at a different pricing mechanism. Service and quality should be considered when purchasing. Kind regards, PerksExpress

**Q: A sketching set without an hb pencil? why so expensive on amazon, when michael's sells it for $12?**
A: They are really great quality. Not every pencil is built the same. These were worth it for the white alone.

**Q: Are the windsor newton studio collection colored pencils oil or waxed based?**
A: Hello there.... iam a full time professional artist and Bookbinder and I hate to break it to you, BUT EVERY COLORED PENCIL IS BOTH OIL AND WAX! shocking, I know lol. All colored pencils contain both waxes and oils... the ratios are just different, so depending on the dominant one... its labeled as " wax based" or " oil based ". This was never an issue, or a question untill recently with the rise of colorist and crafters and hobbyists. For some reason people think they can judge a pencils feel and performance by asking this question.... iam here to tell you that you CANT. People seem to think that all " wax based" colored pencils are all soft and buttery like prismacolor ( which are the only low end professional artist grade pencils I don't really use ) and that all of them get terrible wax bloom. They think that asking if it's " oil based " that they will be very hard like Polychromos and are difficult to blend... its not true, and you simply can't because they are all different. But the great news is they all work together beautifully!
You have my second favorite colored pencil under my Holbeins ( I literally have atleast 2- 150 sets in my studio at all times, I get mine straight from Japan because they are twice as cheap than here ) ... so you have Derwent lightfast pencils which are labeled as " oil based " colored pencils, but they are super smooth and soft, they blend AMAZINGLY and layer for days... and work great with Gamsol/ OMS
And you have luminance that are labeled as " wax based " and they differ in hardness and softness from color to color.. based on the pigments. But they are considered on the softer side AND HAVE ZERO WAX BLOOM. Caran D'ache Pablo are labeled as " wax base " yet are hard and keep a sharp point for very long! They layer forever and are extremely smooth and velvety on their lay down. You simply can't judge a pencil from asking this question, plus it doesn't really matter because they all work together, they all work beautifully with one another. The whole " wax or oil based labeling " is actually a fairly recent thing.... because of all the uprise in popularity with colorists and hobbyists. This question is rarely ever asked in professional arts, but it never matters in professional art. I literally own every single complete set, full color range of ALL professional-artist grade, lightfast sets of colored pencils. I use all of them together, I have colored pencil stackable trays ( like the ones for my copics, just smaller slots for pencils ) secured and stacked all the way up the wall behind my artist drafting table... and the wall beside me too. They are all used depending on my color needs and different techniques used. I literally use all of them except the prismacolors... every once in a blue moon, I will use one of their lightfast lighter colors. Their wax bloom is horrific and there are alot of questionable or poor lightfast ratings. So just keep this on mind that you don't really need to worry if " it's oil based or wax based " because they are ALL both at the same time. I hope you have a wonderful day, cheers

**Q: Are they water soluble?**
A: no, they aren't

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Pencil Set That Made Me Believe ✏️✨
*by K***T on December 14, 2024*

I bought the Winsor & Newton Studio Collection Artist Pencils with big dreams of creating breathtaking sketches and maybe even accidentally stumbling into a career as the next Van Gogh (minus the ear situation). What I didn’t expect was a journey of artistic discovery, personal growth, and several accidental pencil-related stabbings. First, let’s talk about the pencils themselves: they’re sleek, perfectly balanced, and come in a range of shades so refined you’ll find yourself whispering “Graphite is life” at 2 a.m. The moment I held one, I felt like a serious artist—even though the last thing I drew was a stick figure dog that looked like a mutant potato. Inspired, I started sketching: first a leaf, then a tree, and then… my destiny. Okay, maybe just a bowl of fruit. But the pencils make shading so smooth and satisfying that even my uneven apple looked deliberate, like it came from a fancy art exhibit titled “Imperfect Perfection.” The best part? These pencils make mistakes look good. Smudges? Artful texture. A line where it shouldn’t be? Spontaneous brilliance. One of the pencils broke when I dropped it, but I pretended it was a metaphor for the fragility of creative ambition. By the time I finished my first “masterpiece,” I wasn’t just an amateur artist—I was a full-on creator, dramatically blowing eraser dust off my page like I’d just solved world hunger in pencil form. Sure, I’m still not quitting my day job, but this set made me believe in the power of good tools and questionable talent. Whether you’re sketching, doodling, or just using them to look artsy in a café, these pencils are an inspiration. Warning: you may find yourself quoting Bob Ross and calling your cat “a happy little accident.” Highly recommend. ✏️🎨
