The fabric is a bit heavier than your basic swimsuit, but it's soft, comfortable, and feels very rich and durable. The skirt is long enough to hide my old lady butt (I'm 54), but not so long as to interfere with swimming. The ruching is perfectly placed for covering less-than-ideal tummies, too.
