I'm so glad I did. Apart from looking the part, it really does work very well. Yes it is a bit plasticky, particularly the cradle for the handset, and I think this could have been improved on a little, but unlike many reviews I have not found that the handset sticks or doesn't hang up properly. There is no volume control for calls or for the ringer, but I have not found it quiet when talking, and both myself and the other party can hear each other as if we were standing next to each other. The ring tone is quite pleasant, although a little disappointing - I was hoping for a traditional bell ring, but it is a more contemporary bell, like you would get on a mobile phone. The ring is a medium volume, not so loud that you jump out of your skin if you are close to it, but loud enough to hear from upstairs in a quiet environment, but I'm not sure you would notice it with the TV on for instance. It is a very basic phone and doesn't even store numbers (as in a phone book for speed dialling), but I am a very light phone user and do most of my communicating online so all in all I am very happy with it.
