Your dog will hear it when the dog moves near the PIR sensor. It is harmless, just a deterrent. Your dog may bark and move away when it activates it. But, it is perfectly harmless. **Q: Should this work during the hours of darkness,as mine does not as there has been cat dirt on every morning since I started using,not very happy.** A: It should come on all the time once it is switched on. THEY DOOOO NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sharp sound and flashing lights to scare animals *by J***A on 14 April 2020* My neighbour cats are invading our garden and because I don't like cats I bought this device being harmul for animals. Is solar battery operated, it has a nice design and no one will know what is it. Is really easy to install, I only set up on mode 2 for cats after I placed the device in the garden. It works by detecting movement and scaring the animals in nearby of device by emiting a sharp shound and flashing lights. However the sound can be heard by humans and is not very confortable for ears. I recommend to be used in an area where are no humans and will work great for animals.I personally decider to switch it off everytime I sit in the garden and leave it on when is no persons around. ### ⭐ Inneffective *by R***S on 3 February 2020* The media could not be loaded. I have an ongoing battle with cats defecating in my garden. Maybe three dozens times now I have picked up after them and have had varying success and failure with cat alarms and other methods.A ginger cat decided to do its business recently and it was on my flower bed away from one of my cat alarms. I decided to buy another one (this one) and cover that area. I also put a lattice of string over my flower beds using bamboo canes.You can see the cat has returned and is looking for a nice soft flower bed to take a poop in. He also tried the shrubbery where he has been before, but I had put coffee grinds, chilli powder and orange peel there. He managed to find the one spot I had not covered.It looks like the alarm in the centre of the video either didn't trigger or needs a charge, but the new one (this one) worked fine and has plenty of charge, but on max alarm settings and sensitivity he walked straight past and didn't bat an eyelid. This product is the one that is by the front door and he passed very close by it and was not startled.Notice how the lights came on very early but this alarm only came on (note the flashing) when the cat was really close to it. So a very poor sensitivity range despite being at its highest setting.Ok if I am trying to be completely fair here, I did see one cat leap out of the way when it went past the alarm in the centre of the video, so possibly this ginger cat could be deaf! But it obviously doesn't care about the flashing lights either.So it seems that a physical barrier and strong smells are perhaps the best method? Failing this I shall be buying an electric fence!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Needs time to take effect *by G***Y on 18 August 2021* My garden is used as a through route for several cats. When I first switched the Cat Deterrent on a large Ginger Tom walked past it without seeming to be affected at all. The battery needed charging frequently, but after a couple of months it seemed to last much longer, and now I don't need to charge it manually at all. After experimenting with the settings, which are tricky to select as there is no audible click when you turn the switch, I found setting number 2 was the most effective. I haven't actually seen a cat turn back when it goes off but they don't come through here as often now, I can only put it down to this deterrent being effective.
