They do close around a big fly to trap it. What happens once closed I’m not sure but often a dried out big fly ends up pushed back out to its edge. This is where I assist and remove the dried out fly with tweezers. I have two healthy Venus fly traps. I have repotted both in to larger pots. Sometimes one of the traps will turn black. I use the tweezers to remove. This year I had flowers on long stems. They prefer rain water and drink loads. Biggest tip is always use rainwater, never tap water . ### ⭐ ITEM NOT AS DESCRIBED *by A***R on 11 February 2022* The item arrived and the box was in good condition, it was securely packaged too inside the box but looked like mainly soil from the top in the plastic casing. When I opened the plastic outer casing what I found was soaking wet, dripping soil. The plant wasn't in the top it looked like someone had dropped the plant on the floor and scooped it back into the pot, as most of it was buried under the soil and the plant itself was damaged - with many of the 'stalks' with the lobes on the end not actually attached to any root or anything - so not much to be salvaged. Judging by the packaging I'm not sure that this could have happened during the transportation, I'm thinking that maybe it left the seller in this condition. The plant itself was also not 'giant' it was tiny and nothing close to the images. The lobes were all closed on the little plant that was remaining and have remained this way. I did message the seller originally to try and resolve the issue with a replacement or refund but there has been no response after 4 days and this was supposed to be a gift for valentines so now will not make it in time. It definately does not pass as a gift.
