It can be used to reinforce and repair both metal and wood doors. Made of solid brass construction, the lock reinforcer plate comes finished in stainless steel. All the necessary mounting hardware is included for a quick and easy installation. The lock reinforcement plate is pre-punched for mounting. The reinforcer is designed for 1-3/8 inch thick doors that have mortise or drive-in latches. It features one 2-1/8 inch bore with a 2-3/8 inch backset. The door reinforcer is non-recessed. My original side door to my garage was pretty beat up and weathered. A new deadbolt did not fit well in the existing mounting spot. The masonite front and rear of the door construction is a bit flimsy. This metal. placed over the side of the door this allowed me to mount the deadbolt securely. The deadbolt works smoothly and appears a bit stronger than when mounted only on the masonite door facing..

My mortise lock would bot work anymore on my 120 year old door. This device is perfect. I spray painted the original stainless steel color with an oil rubbed bronze color. Much less expensive than buying one that color! I was able to install a new doorknob and decided to go high tech with a keypad. Love it! It’s a “Must Have” for these old doors with old locks.
