Admired her for the courage and heart it took for her to enter into so many stories so compassionately—even ones that may have horrified her. Admired her for her perfect and unflinching eye and her ability to find beauty everywhere. Admired her for her sheer photographic skills. And envied everything that I admired about her. I have treasured her Aperture monograph for many years. Today I received "The Book of Everything," a three-volume posthumous retrospective edited by her husband Martin Bell and just published by Steidl. Because I ordered early, I got it at a fraction of the current huge asking price, which I could have never afforded. It is as huge as its price, weighing in at over 10 pounds, and it may be the most lavish photography set I have ever seen, even surpassing Salgado's "Genesis," a true labor of love. Also, they were taken in various locales throughout the world. I own a few of her previous books and was a fan of her work from way back, and this collection certainly does justice to her legacy.
