As far as expansions go, it adds no new mechanicso the gameplay, which i think expansions SHOULD. It should be more than just an art and text change. This expansion simply changes available options to more "worldly" ingredients. It is not at all a requirement for the base game and i'd skip it, unless you're a huge fan.
