Honestly I never hung one before that didn't have the paper attached and it really threw me off. I think this may be what happened with some of the other people that gave it a poor review. First of all keep in mind that the transfer paper can be used twice if you think it doesn't fit the letters. I had to cut the saying in two length wise and hang the top and bottom separately. This was better for me anyway because I hung it a little differently over top of my pictures. You have to peel off the solid backing on the transfer paper and you will have a clear sticky transfer to place on top of your design, make sure the sticky side goes over your lettering. I used a credit card to rub over the letters to get them to stick to the transfer. When you carefully pull off the clear transfer your letters will be on there and your ready to apply that to your wall. Once I figured that out it went perfectly! I would suggest a you tube video that another supplier recommended for instructions on how to apply wall decals. I have used the instructions for every decal in my house and I have never had a problem.search "How to apply a wall decal - Accent Studios Wall Decals" on you tube...Even the "so called" cheapest and "don't bother buying" recommendations decals have been hung successfully.The only complaint is that this decal is small. You have to take your time with the 'utensil' provided, which is just a wooden tongue depressor, especially on areas where parts of the letters stick out beyond the base. I had trouble with the ys, gs, and ps. If you go slow and stop immediately if you notice the letters not sticking so you can rub them again, you should have a good looking finished product. I did have a few of the letter rip even after being extremely careful, so I had to try to place them by hand and rub them into the wall separately, which I can notice because its not perfect but my guests can't.
