so I gave it one less star because it will not be as easy to find a replacement due to the smaller size ...

My pop-up drain was broken and I tried to replace the lever but somehow wound up breaking the gasket which caused a leak under the sink. There were no replacement gaskets at the big box store so I had to replace the whole pop-up drain. After watching a few youtube videos, and reading comments and reviews that 60 year-old women are changing out their drains I was given a vote of confidence that I too, can change a drain myself. As some reviewers have noted, this item can leak if extra steps are not taken during installation. I don't think there was instructions included with this drain. I had to unscrew this a couple of times after installing the next day when I noticed there was a slow leak that collected overnight. I had used PTFE (teflon) tape on the bottom portion of this drain pipe underneath the where the drain arm lever is inserted (it unscrews). I only did a few rotations of the teflon tape the first time which wasn't enough and I didn't wrap it tight enough. After wrapping it a little under a ten times around I took care of that leak. I noticed later that a slow leak was collecting from under the threads where the nut that is screwed upwards to compress the rubber gasket under the sink was leaking too. I wasn't quite sure if I hadn't gotten it tight enough or if that needed some PTFE tape too. So I dried it and threaded a lot of PTFE tape around those visible screw threads. I wasn't able to get the nut tight around the gasket because I was using some really large pliers that kept slipping. I went to the store and bought a pipe wrench to use on the nut and was able to get a much tighter seal with the gasket and leaks stopped. So, use lots of PTFE tape and a pipe wrench to get your first install correct. As some reviewers have noted the bottom portion of the pipe is brass, which is not a big deal for me. The inside of the pop up drain at the very top was narrower than in my other sinks, and the pop up drain is shorter as I tried to fit another pop up in there to see. Also it has a white cheap looking plastic portion on the bottom, so I gave it one less star because it will not be as easy to find a replacement due to the smaller size of the pop-up drain.

Lift rod handle too wide, ball rod too short, no instructions

*by B***P on Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2013*

This new drain assembly came with no instructions, but installation seemed fairly straight forward. I removed my old drain, installed the new drain and turned the water on. Unfortunately, I immediately discovered a drip at the edge where the smooth 1.25" pipe joined the thicker mid-section containing the ball-joint. At first, I thought the ball rod was leaking, but discovered the smooth pipe and the mid-section came together with screw threads. I mistakenly thought it was a solid joint - like my old one. I had to uninstall the drain, teflon-tape the threaded joint, and re-install to remove the leak. It would have been nice if a schematic diagram had been provided indicating that this was a threaded joint, or if instructions were provided stating that this joint should be taped.Next I tried to connect the pull-up rod to the ball-rod, but discovered two more problems: (1) The ball rod was too short to reach the pull-up rod and (2) the head on the pull-up rod is too large - and can not be pulled up without scratching the back side of my faucet. Since I am replacing an existing assembly, I can re-use the original pull-up rod, but unfortunately the (long) old ball-rod doesn't fit this new drain. However, I contacted the manufacturer, and they have offered to send me a longer ball rod (P/N A125151).My only other nit is with the finish. It is a bit shiny for a satin nickel finish. It is much shiner than brushed nickel tap.As for the drain, it seems reasonably well made, especially for the price. The gasket is pliable, large and seals well.UPDATE: I read that abrasive cleaners should be avoided, so I have been using soft scrub to clean the sink / drain. However, this resulted in damage to the finish on the drain assembly. I contacted Danze and they said to avoid all cleaning products "with chemicals". I asked for clarification and they said to stick with Eco friendly products when cleaning.

    Good drain for the money

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2014*

I bought a Kohler faucet a while back for a bath remodel. It was pretty nice except I did not like the fact that it came with a plastic drain assembly. I decided to install it anyways when we got the new vanity and right from the start it was a problem. The plastic nut holding it to the sink had ears that broke off easily while tightening. Once I got it installed it leaked. Tried re-seating everything a couple more times with no luck. That's when I ordered this Danze drain assembly which arrived in a couple of days.First off, this assembly looks and feels more substantial than the plastic. The parts fit well together and the place where the pop up rod with the ball fits in has plastic seals which the plastic drain did not. The only negative I can point to is that the collar that is inside the bowl is a bit thinner than the one it replaced, but it didn't seem to affect the installation or function of the drain.Once I installed everything and water tested it was completely leak free. I used some pipe sealant on the threads of the large nut holding it to the bowl, plumbers putty on top under the flange in the bowl, and put some Teflon tape on the threads where the drain tube screws in. The finish matches the Kohler faucet well enough and it holds water when it's supposed to. I would buy this again and recommend to others.
