Only thing I would recommend changing is making the light on the warmer tone - a bit too cool blue for my taste. You CAN unscrew the top from the cup portion. I don't know that I would put liquid in there, tho. I just looked at the underside of the lid and it looks like some small pieces of the internal portion of the lamp stick out in various places. I keep one in my car, my shed, my house (in several windows) and in my camping kit. They are unbelievable useful, completely reliable, always ready, and TOUGH. They have been on countless outdoor adventures, used as bike lights hanging off the handlebars, 2 am trips to the camp bathroom, used as a security light for a nervous youngster, and witnessed many late night card games at a picnic table.
