Review: Excellent Sculpting Clay - Super Sculpey Firm and Medium Blend feel and act more like 'regular' Plasticine modeling clay than any other polymer clays that I've tried. Compared to the Med. Blend, Firm is harder to knead at first. After it's conditioned, it's soft to work with, however. It can take a little more handling without deforming than the medium blend can, it can hold a little more of its own weight, and it carves a little better too. It blends just as excellently as medium blend. Although it is stiffer at first, after it's conditioned I'd have a hard time telling it from medium blend. So much so that I'm sure I'd get them mixed if I was using them at the same time. Since it is stiff at first, if you don't have a pasta machine to roll it with, or a significant other with larger hands than you, I suggest using the 'two handed method' to condition the clay. Simply cup one hand over the other and let your fingers help each other to push and knead the clay. So, two thumbs push against eight fingers braced against each other, and so on and so forth. I know it sounds childlike and simple, but you'll be surprised how much easier this 'two hand' kneading technique is on your hands. Have fun sculpting! Carol
Review: Great for Sculpting! - So I've used this product ever since I started learning to sculpt. This clay is much harder than regular polymer but i think you can get more detail with it because of that. You have to roll it around quite a bit for it to soften up before use but it stays soft for quite awhile after that, moving very easily and taken details easily as well. You bake it in the oven once finished sculpting and then can paint it with acrylics. I've also seen people drill in to it after hardening to add more pieces to the sculpture or whatever you need to do. I bakes and cools very quickly so little waiting time. Attached are a few of the sculptures I've completed with it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: would this work on a kids potters wheel**
A: No. Polymer clays are for hand-building only. They are too solid for potters wheels. You'll want a nice air dry clay. Even then you'll need to wet it down somewhat so its pliable enough to shape on the wheel. Good luck & have fun!

**Q: To work on the clay over time do I keep it moist some how? How long does it stay moist?**
A: Polymer clay (including the Super Sculpeys) are oil-based rather than water-based like the many air-dry clays many are familiar with. Since polymer clay contains no water, it can't "dry" out. Over time it can become less supple though IF some of the oils have gotten leached out by being in direct contact with porous materials, by being in a place that's too warm or has too much UV light (which will begin to cure it), or if the ingredients have begun to "settle". It can always be resoftened by mixing in more oily stuff, or by warming it in various ways (including stretching it by kneading or in a pasta machine or food processor, etc, which create heat from friction), and can even be reconstituted if partly cured tho sometimes not worth the trouble. It will also be warmed from just handling or the heat of hands. For longer storage, it can be helpful to put it in a cool, dark place to avoid those situations, and an air-tight container like a plastic bag or Tupperware can help at least a bit too for some things.

**Q: How long would I have to work with this clay after kneading...before it becomes firm again?**
A: Super Sculpey always stays somewhat firm. When you knead it. It warms slightly becoming slightly more pliable but still pretty much holds its shape. As it sits it returns to room temperature becoming a little less pliable but doesn't harden. How quickly that happens depends on the temperature in the room. You can hasten this by placing in a cooler area (but be forewarned if you put it in the fridge the condensation that will form when you remove it could cause the clay to "moon" once baked. If you leave the unbaked piece for years it will eventually fracture but once worked with the hands the oils are redistributed throughout the clay & it becomes pliable again. (Think of it a bit like gum. Never gets as hard as Hubba Bubba - but relaxes a bit once you work with it.)

**Q: Is it 1 pound (16oz) or 10.3 oz?? The description says 1 pound but then under the picture it says size: 10.3 oz?! Which is it?**
A: Package says 1# and I used a little bit so that’s probably correct.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect sculpting medium
*by D***D on August 2, 2024*

Ever since Joanns Michaels, and the lobby of hobby forsaken the medium gray sculpty I decided to find alternative sources and upgrade to firm. This clay is double packed in plastic, and after opening and working with it, I realized how bad the stuff I was previously using was. No more resorting to baby oil for soothing. Chunks melded effortlessly together and a simple swipe of the finger smoothed down areas i had to force with a rubber shaper. A must for sculpting
