It is not a knit. It does not stretch. It is lightweight, but not see through. Mine is light blue. Machine wash. Best to hang to dry, as it does wrinkle. The more I wash mine, the softer it gets, so it is not “crisp.” Very comfortable! Glad I got it! **Q: Is the material soft ?** A: i wouldn't exactly say it was soft but it's not scratchy at all - maybe crisp would be a better word. I was looking for a night gown that would keep me cool while I watch tv. I wasn’t sure I’d like the fit cos it was loose. However, the design keeps me cool in an unconditioned (air) room with the windows open but no strong breeze. I also feel pretty wearing this garment. I don’t sleep in it (I sleep in my underwear) but I imagine it’d be airy. Again, I really like the loose fit. I plan on buying more. It’s lightweight but does wrinkle. I also like the color. However, bust size runs small. I wear a medium, and this nightgown fits well overall, but the bust runs small, so the buttons pull a little bit. Very cool and comfortable, but not at all loose or flowing. The color I got was the pink, but it's not a real light pink. As I said, it's cool, and that's due to the breathability of the fabric. I gave it only 4 stars since the bodice runs small. Otherwise, it's true to size for a medium. The straps are adjustable.
