It took ten years, but I finally had a soldering tip cartridge go out on the Metcal reworking station (The STTC-140 to be exact). Considering what I put it through (including soldering PL-259 connectors when it was not really the ideal tool for the job), It's at least soldered over 300 circuit boards together from bare to finished (a very conservative estimate), and that's not counting all of the repair work and wiring I've done with it before I bought my butane powered iron for working on cars with. It doesn't owe me a thing and I am more than pleased with the unit still.I just bought an identical tip to swap it out with.  Ten years ago, I said it would likely be the last soldering station I ever bought and I meant it.  These cartridges are a big reason why.
