Review: Favorite Play Food for Our Toddler - We love this set of LR play food for our toddler! All of the LR sets we have are great quality. This particular set would be a great starter set for play food for a toddler or really kids at any age. The foods included have tons of playability and can work for all the meals of the day. You get two slices of bread, which could be used to make a sandwich or as toast. The two slices of cheese could be snacks or used to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The orange, apple, banana, and blueberries could be stand alone snacks or sides to meals. They are also great for promoting healthy eating. The carrot could be a side or snack as well. The bowls of cereal and macaroni are adorable! I love the textures that feel so much like actual cereal or noodles, as much as plastic can anyway. These also come with little spoons that my daughter loves to use to feed her dolls. She’s 20 months right now and got this set for Christmas. We love the yogurt cup as well since it isn’t labeled. It can be yogurt, a smoothie, or strawberry ice cream. The cookie is a great weight as well and holds up well to teething. The juice box is probably our least favorite piece from this set just because my daughter has never seen an actual juice box. So she doesn’t really recognize it as a drink. I would rather have had a juice bottle that she could have used as juice, soda, medicine, or pediasure (which she drinks a lot). I can see her having more fun with the juice box in the future though. Since it’s not labeled, I guess she could use it as juice or maybe a hospital water mug or something? If the no label thing really bothers you, you could just make your own label for it. I know some people have been really bothered by the muffin, but this is one of my toddler’s favorite parts of the set. She absolutely loves taking the top off and on the muffin cup. I think it’s adorable that the blueberries can fit inside the muffin top, and my little loves pulling them out of it. I think it’s a great way to teach kids that whole ingredients make up our food as well since blueberries in an actual muffin aren’t terribly recognizable as the raw blueberries they might eat on the side of a meal. Since the muffin is pretty plain on top, you could pretend it’s a cupcake if you wanted to as well. Some people have been concerned that a few of the pieces have small holes in them, almost like a bath toy. Let me be clear here, the quality of the materials used here is far superior to a bath toy. Some of the pieces do have little holes in them though. And my toddler did discover those holes and was having a blast sucking on them and getting spit inside the toys. I took away the pieces she was doing that with for a while, mostly the banana and apple. I just squoze them out until the air coming out was totally dry. I wasn’t sure what else to do. I’d be interested to know if anyone has tried microwaving them for a short time, you know, like you do with pacifiers sometimes. Anyway, I recently gave the apple and banana back to my daughter, and she hasn’t been sucking on the holes anymore. My one wish with this set is that it came in a basket like the breakfast, lunch, and dinner baskets. We have a basket from the dinner set and just trade sets out in it. The food we’re not using goes in a bigger bin under her crib. She loves filling the basket and dumping it out again, something I think most toddlers love. So I think that would improve this set significantly. It is still pretty great on its own though, and it has some great possibilities for expanding vocabulary and teaching colors. It’s also a fun way to introduce your toddler to feeding themself with a spoon without a huge mess. I think it’s also a great set to grow with kiddos since none of the foods are terribly babyish. I would highly recommend! Also, it comes in a nice box with a front display, so it would be good for gifting.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What foods are included in set?**
A: The set includes 2 pieces of white bread, 2 slices of american cheese, a cup of strawberry yogurt, a juice box, macaroni and cheese in a bowl, cereal in a bowl, an orange, a banana, an apple, a bagel, a chocolate chip cookie, a carrot, blueberries, and a muffin that has a removable muffin top and is hollow so that the blueberries can fit inside of it. The set also comes with two spoons (presumably for the macaroni and the cereal).

**Q: Where is this manufactured?**
A: I threw out the packaging, and all the pieces of food I looked closely at have either "(c)Learning Resources" or nothing printed on them. Sorry!Did a quick Google search and this message is posted on the Learning Resources website:Dear Learning Resources Customer:In light of the recent publicity about toys made in China, we would like to assure you that all Learning Resources products are safe for use by children. The safety of children is our top priority in both the design and manufacturing of each product. Learning Resources products are subject to safety testing by independent laboratories to ensure they comply with applicable safety standards and laws, including those for lead and heavy metals. These product safety tests are conducted on an ongoing basis. We are fully aware and appreciative of the trust you put in us when you purchase a Learning Resources product, and we hold that trust in the highest regard. Thank you for your trust and continued support.Sincerely, Etienne VeberPresident and Chief Operating Officer,Learning Resources, Inc.http://www.learningresources.com/category/press+center/press+releases/our+committment+to+product+safety.do

**Q: What age is this appropriate for?**
A: I would say it is available for kids over the age of putting things in their mouths. The toy food has holes in it (like a bath toy) and I am a bit worried about spit getting in there and the toys getting mildewed/mold. We got them for our 4 year old, and he doesn’t quite understand not to put them in his mouth yet. I suppose they are made of safe ingredients because the box says ages 18 months + on it.

**Q: What material are these toy foods made out of? Are any of the carcinogens?**
A: Hello Amazon Customer! New Sprouts Munch It! is made of soft flexible plastic. Feel free to contact us at review@learningresources.com with any other questions you may have.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality and looks real!

Looks real! Great quality play food for our play kitchen!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Set for Two-Year-Olds to Inspire Imaginations and Build Vocabulary!
*by K***. on January 25, 2016*

Our two-year-old nephew didn't have any play food sets at the time so my sister-in-law suggested we get him one for Christmas. I searched a lot on Amazon and there were so many different ones to choose from! I decided on this one since it got good reviews, has a good variety of foods that two-year-olds would eat and know about, and the price point was perfect. My sister-in-law said her son loves this set! The foods are made of durable plastic so it's safe for toddlers and easy to clean. Because this set includes a lot of foods toddlers would eat, it is great for building vocabulary and inspiring imaginations. It's also nice to find food sets made specifically for ages two and up since some made for three years and up can be slightly smaller, which could be a potential choking hazard. My twins are three and sometimes still put things in their mouths so I definitely would've opted for this set when they were two. Overall, this food set is wonderful for young children to build their imaginations and vocabulary and so far it seems very safe to use. I asked my sister-in-law if there was a smell to the plastic but she said she didn't notice anything about it. The variety of foods included are great since these are the foods most kids eat at this age and they look about as realistic as they can be while still being plastic. I recommend this set to anyone who is looking for food sets specifically for two-year-olds!
