I have some that arethick velour with double thick felt on them it's fine **Q: How do you keep the rods from drooping when extended? Brackets are screwed into studs, and I only have light sheers hanging on them.** A: I didn’t In counter that problem but I did have a little looseness in the arms so I took the washers off the bottom where the screw on ball is and that made the arms a little tighter for me hope that helps I’m using my arms for a canopy look and I’ve figured out how to keep the arms a little steady from moving inward **Q: can you install these on a metal door?** A: I don't know why not, but you will have to figure out some way to anchor the screws that fasten the base to the door. This is just my guess . . . **Q: What is weight limit fully extended to 38 in? What type of metal is rod made of? Is inner rod solid metal or hollow?** A: These are best asked of the manufacturer. So for example, if my window is 24 wide, I prefer an overall length (unextended) that was 28 or I could even use 30 inch. The screws that came with these rods are really ok for sheetrock. These were hung on a concrete wall with stronger screws ( that I bought myself) and also used those plastic inserts that strengthen the screw and I needed a drill for concrete. A few inches on either side of the window helped ensure the concrete didn't crack by being too close to the edge. And I like that look. I could open the curtains, a few inches, without swinging them open with that longer length. There are two sliding rods within each. One pulls out for extended length but the longer the inner rod is extended the weaker the whole unit becomes. I used 36 inch long curtains. The rods are very sturdy. The trick, for me to buying these is getting longer length rods. They are so much stronger. Tilt-up basement windows mean you have to place these rods up high so the window can still open, if you want the curtain still closed when it is open for privacy. The little ball shape on the ends help keep curtains on rod because for me, basement windows are up there and I grab the base of the curtain to swing it. We have 8 foot basement ceilings.These are the VERY BEST and heaviest and strongest swing rods I have ever found. Got them in Gloss White.
