Kraut Kaps pickling lids, produce excellent, consistent and economical results for the do-it yourself fermenter. They are now available with a custom platinum silicone grommet! These lacto-fermenting lids are constructed of 100% food safe components. The plastic is the most inert BPA free available and comes with a custom clear silicone seal. The durable platinum silicone grommet and airlock are easy to disassemble and clean. The airlocks are plastic. The plastic lids are thick and not at risk of warping, as pressure is easily vented through the airlock. This listing is for three Kraut Kap assemblies that are for use on wide mouth mason jars. Glass jar not included. Not dishwasher, freezer or microwave safe.

Fermenting your foods has multiple health and flavor benefits including making vitamins and minerals more available to your body and providing a powerful punch of probiotics and enzymes. It's a great way to preserve food while still keeping it raw and full of nutrients. Lactobacillus, the bacteria that produce your sour flavor, only thrive in an oxygen-free environment, while most molds and bad microorganisms require oxygen to survive. This lid provides the correct Lacto-fermenting environment for maximum growth of good bacteria while minimizing undesirable bacterial growth.

Great product and great company
We have recently begun to ferment and sprout foods and we were looking for a way to ferment small batches without having to spend a bunch of money on a fermenting system. We also wanted to not have to use a gigantic crock since we planned on fermenting smaller batches of various vegetables, as opposed to one big batch of kraut. Enter: Kraut Kaps. These awesome lids fit on wide-mouth mason jars and have a silicone seal around the rim. The top part of the system contains water which creates an airlock, thereby allowing fermentation gases to escape while preventing oxygen from entering. The system is flawless and I love how I can have several ferments going at once. Primal Kitchen is a great company--they are very responsive to any questions or concerns you might have and respond promptly. I have also purchased additional silicone seals and crock rocks from this company and would give them five stars as well. Highly recommended.

They work well
I'm still experimenting with my recipe for fermented beets, but so far, they've all been pretty good. With the Kraut Kaps I have never gotten any mold to scoop off the top like I did with just a loose lid. I'm still filling my jars too full at an inch and a quarter below the top. Red liquid leaks up through the gas lock and onto the plate I set my jar on. That may be because I always add the contents of a probiotic capsule to encourage fermentation and hopefully add to the benefit of my fermented beets. My recipe so far is 3 cups grated beets stirred into a mixture of 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 probiotic capsule. Put it into a quart jar and tamp the solids down. I use the pusher from my VitaMix for tamping. I then put a glass weight on top to keep the solids submerged, but I'm not sure if that is necessary with the Kraut Kaps.

Easy to use & sauerkraut turned out great!
Great lids for making sauerkraut! I flowed the instructions & tips that came with them, and two out of my three jars of sauerkraut turned out perfect. The third one spoiled before it was done because I didn't get the seal in the lid right- my fault! Very easy to use & plan on buying more so I can make more jars & try fermented pickles too :)I was very happy with these, especially as a first-time fermenter. Would recommend!

Nice amount of spices and good price
Nice amount of spices and good price. I am currently using to ferment 2 quarts of Kimchee and mixed vegetables. Smells great and product allows gasses to escape without always opening the jars ... although there is some overflow, I just put a tray under the jars. I would highly recommend these. I am new to fermenting and believe these airlocks will help me produce a better ferment. Happy fermenting.

Seems to work fine, but maybe not all that useful or appropriate for kimchi
The seem to function fine as advertised, but it turns out that this design is probably not cut out for kimchi and other pickles that don't have a water brine. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but when I move around the jars to store them, or perhaps even while it's sitting, a little bit of the water from the top drips down into the jar. That makes the kimchi watery, since it doesn't have a liquid brine in the first place. (There's some juice from the porridge, but the kimchi is not submerged in water)

Love using these to ferment because you can't always watch ...
Love using these to ferment because you can't always watch a sealed jar. I leave them in my cabinet inside a pyrex dish so if they overflow its all good. They are a little difficult to clean but I solved that problem by purchasing a mini soft brush. Be careful washing as to not crack them. I bought 2 sets of these and 2 sets of the 3 glass weights. We always have a ton of fermented food in our frig... kimchi, kraut, pickles, carrots, brussel sprouts and so much more. Healthy gut+ Happy family.

It is easy to use and I have made so many batches ...
after losing several batches of vegetable ferments to mold and surface scum, I finally bought this . It is easy to use and I have made so many batches without any problems. After reading other reviews I am really careful when I wash and store it so it doesn't break . No problems so far and I've used it consistently for months.

My only issue is that when I went to buy more, the price had gone up considerably.
I have used these with great success fermenting kraut, vegetables, even green cherry tomatoes. My only issue is that when I went to buy more, the price had gone up considerably. I did not order. Is the increase the result of the fermenting craze? I will manage to make do with the three I have.
