Review: Can’t live without em but…. Dang they expensive! - A finicky fan… yeah, but worth every penny. I bought two of these and installed them on the roof of a box truck (a van front with a box rear end) I use the pair to circulate the air inside my van. They do NOT force a huge gust of wind in the van but they will exchange the air enough to help evacuate odors, or excess heat. My box (on the van) is 10’ long by 80” wide. After build out the inside was considerably smaller (insulation… a must) they are about 4 1/2’ apart and do a decent job but I never get the “strong wind” from them as I was told to expect. One is directly over my bed and I’m one of those people who MUST have moving air running across me or I can’t sleep. The fan just doesn’t ‘push’ a lot of air at once, even on high- but it’s not for a lack of trying The remote is a nice feature and even though I can sit in the center of my box and reach up to change settings, there is something amusing and innately American about pressing a remote button to make stuff happen!! The rain protection is usually a feature I love. Since I have slide windows, rain means being closed up. Having the fans to keep a continuous flow of fresh air in and stale air out means comfort and it does this admirably. I did find out that rain proof is a misnomer. When the freaky northern monsoon rains hit, the rain was going side ways enough to get under the lip and had to be closed… my fault not the fan. A quick reparking facing away from the deluge and all was right in the world!😬 so beware when Mother Nature gets creative! The Maxxair fans require a consistent 12v of power. When my solar panels get my batteries to 100%…. The pesky Maxxair fans SHUT OFF!!! I turn them back on and they almost immediately shut off. Similarly when connected to shore power (which can charge my humble 300ah lifepo4’s in a blink) the fans shut off! What’s funny is that in the summer when I’m glad to have my batteries charged completely to run the fans, the full charge sets in at the hottest part of the day… which means while I’m roasting my ‘unmentionable’ off, the fans go on break. I found that I have to disconnect from solar so my batteries can deplete as the fans do their thing! I recently learned of a small device to put between power source and fan. What it’s designed to do is maintain a clean 12v. It eliminates the problems experienced when greater than 12v is available. (Similar issues occur when underpowered) The outside of the fan is plastic and not a very durable one. Sadly when placed on a roof and allowed to bathe beneath southwestern US sunshine all day, something’s gotta give. The plastic gets brittle on every piece even what’s below the outside shroud and careless bumping into it will fracture the plastic. The white outside shroud or lid lets in a ton of light. If you like sleeping in total darkness or the very hint of daylight in your berth forces you to consciousness, I suggest a sleep mask. I took tbe novel approach of cleaning sanding and painting the exterior lid with Flex seal. It hardly affected the intrusion of daylight but has strengthened the fans lid. Next year I may repeat the process on the inside to help darken the room. It also offers a bit of sound deadening and keeps the plastic underside a tad cooler. The fan is expensive but easy to install, reliable, and full featured. It’s quirky when you need it to function flawlessly but there is a plethora of helpful advice on the web to help you sort it all out. Overall a sound investment. When these two break down for good I’ll replace with the exact same thing but I’ll pre paint the housing etc with flex seal because I think it’s a wise bit of protection for plastic that Doesn’t play well with sunlight. I hope this helps you. For further context, I’ve li ed full time in this van for 3 years now so I’ve gone through a lot with these fans. I gotta say I like em…. I hope you do too. Happy shopping friends!
Review: The best RV fan by far. - This fan is light years ahead of Fantastic Crap Vent. Everything about this fan is better quality that Fantastic Crap. Super quiet, great remote, and a REAL rain cover built in. I don't worry about leaving this on all the time, even when I'm out of the RV. The install is easy and the best part is the housing that goes through the roof is a standard size so no addition cutting is required. The trim all stays in place if you need to remove the fan for any reason to clean or work on it, just remove a couple screws and unplug it to take it off the roof. I have another fan still that is the equivalent in features made by Fantastic Crap and it is like dealing with 20 year old technology compared to the MAXXAIR. The prices are equivalent but the quality goes to MAXXAIR. Before Atwood bought Fantasic Vent, they would at least stand behind their crappy product, not they tell you to by an "upgrade" if you call for parts. Update 7/22/2017, after almost a year of full time use the MAXXAIR continues to work great. It has actually become even quieter with use. I bought an "upgrade" to my living room fantastic vent at the same time I purchased this Maxxair for the bedroom. The fantastic vent already failed two months ago, the main board fried and Fantastic vent want me to take my parked 5th wheel to the nearest camping world to have it looked at. I told them I can replace the main board, the fan motor still works. They refuse to send me parts. I would have expected the FANTASTIC VENT to last at least one year, nope! As for the MAXXAIR, my only complaint so far is the extremely bright green LED that is always ON when in the AUTO mode. I had to put black tape over it in order to sleep in a dark room.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone happen to know how many watts this fan draws on the highest and lowest fan speed?**
A: Not sure but I have it off a single 100watt solar panel and the small battery has yet to get below 3/4 full with the fan on high 24/7 in the summer

**Q: I would like to know how high above the roof the fan is when open all the way, and when closed. Says 16" in stats, but looks less in pics?**
A: 9.3” fully open, 5” closed.

**Q: Are there also manual controls on the unit in case the remote is misplaced?**
A: Yes it has on the fan controls. The remote also comes with a mount to place on the wall, so it won't be misplaced.

**Q: I'm thinking of installing two fans into my next vanbuild. Would 1 remote work for two fans?**
A: I don't know if that would work, but you may want to install one first and see if that is sufficient. We installed one to replace the original fantastic fan in our truck camper and that is sufficient to keep air moving. We normally open windows over bed at far end and keep others closed so that the air is pulled all the way through. I don't know how big your van is but one is enough for our 10' truck camper.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ In or Out airflow, quiet, rainproof, remote control, variable speeds, thermostat, ceiling-fan mode
*by D***N on March 26, 2021*

I loved this fan so much in my trailer that I bought a second one for my camper. It is easy to install, high quality, easy to use, runs quiet, and a bargain in my opinion. It was a nice finishing touch on my camper that adds a touch of luxury that wasn't there with the original, manual crank, can't-use-when-it's-raining, can't-use-when-it's-closed old piece of junk that was there before. My wife loves this fan because she likes to change the settings in the middle of the night without having to get out of the bed. She also loves being able to have the air flow IN while the exhaust fan over the stove flows OUT. She is an awesome cook and great cooking needs ventilation. People complained on these reviews that you cannot close it while the fan is running: FALSE! Just click the open/close button (on the panel or the remote) and there you go. People complained on these reviews that it uses an IR remote (you have to point it at the unit, like you do with a TV remote) but I find this to be a benefit and not a drawback because I wouldn't want to accidentally control the one in the camper when I am trying to control the one in the trailer (or else my wife will get very mad at me), and I definitely wouldn't want someone camping next to me to control my fan. This thing is awesome and well worth spending hundreds more than you would on a basic piece of junk. :-Dave
