Review: A lens that shines everywhere - This is the best multi-use lens I have ever purchased. As long as it is in my bag, I know I can adapt to practically any photography situation and that my pictures will shine. Autofocus is sharp and fast, and the lens stabilization is fantastic. The lens adds a bit of front-end weight and feels a bit larger than expected, but when paired with a mirrorless camera it is negligible. The control rings are tight when you first open the box, but loosen up nicely until they are smooth but not too loose. They provide amazing control over focus and length, with a third ring that can be programmed to control just about any part of the camera (I have mind set to adjust the aperture). The lens is very good all the way stopped down to 2.8, but becomes incredibly sharp at 4.0-5.6. ISO and noise is handled well at even extreme settings of 8,000+ (and can easily be cleaned up with modern photo editing denoising). There is slight vignetting wide open and pulled all the way out, but that is also easily corrected with software. The large glass surface means filters run a premium with this lens, but it is an investment that will be well worth it. I expect to be pulling this lens out of my bag for the next 10 years.

**Q: Is it worth it to upgrade from the EF 24-70 2.8ii version?**
A: I’d say no. I’ve used both and while this lens is incredible, the EF version is still an awesome lens! The only reason I would switch if I were you would be to shoot video, as this lens is damn near silent and has no micro jitters. If you already have the EF lens and are happy with it, I’d spend my money on another lens from the RF line! :)

**Q: Can it be balanced on a gimbal?**
A: Depending on your gimbal and the weight it can hold. This lens is just shy of 2 pounds. The Eos R is 1.5 pounds. If you gimbal can balance at least 3.5 pounds you shouldn’t have an issue.

**Q: Will this work on the canon eos c70 cinema camera?**
A: The EOS C70 is the first Cinema EOS camera with a built-in RF-lens mount, which was previously a feature that was only used for the EOS R series of mirrorless cameras.

This is the best multi-use lens I have ever purchased. As long as it is in my bag, I know I can adapt to practically any photography situation and that my pictures will shine. Autofocus is sharp and fast, and the lens stabilization is fantastic. The lens adds a bit of front-end weight and feels a bit larger than expected, but when paired with a mirrorless camera it is negligible. The control rings are tight when you first open the box, but loosen up nicely until they are smooth but not too loose. They provide amazing control over focus and length, with a third ring that can be programmed to control just about any part of the camera (I have mind set to adjust the aperture). The lens is very good all the way stopped down to 2.8, but becomes incredibly sharp at 4.0-5.6. ISO and noise is handled well at even extreme settings of 8,000+ (and can easily be cleaned up with modern photo editing denoising). This is a great lens! The pictures are very sharp, focus is accurate and fast with this lens on the EOS R. With the firmware update, the eye detect is a dream to use. The only two big drawbacks are the price and the size. I shoot video so the size and weight are actually a benefit for me, and the price is high but it is a high quality lens. My only other complaint is how image stabilization works for video. The electronic stabilization in the body can cause the frame to move trying to track a person in frame even when the camera is still, causing a very odd, unnatural look to the footage (I am talking about with the normal stabilization, not the enhanced). For some reason, with digital stabilization off and just using lens IS, it still does the same thing. I usually only have this issue when shooting a close up of a person that is mostly filling the frame, but it is something to keep in mind. This should be an amazing feature for photographers because it will stabilize not just your camera but help even with a moving subject. For video I find I sadly need to turn off IS sometimes because I can get a better looking shot handheld without getting the weird camera movements that the IS can cause. I am a hybrid shooter so I love it for photos. The focus is smooth and silent for video which is great. The F2.8 aperture gives a good amount of light and at the 70mm end of your zoom you can get some nice bokeh too. Overall I definitely highly recommend the lens and the stabilization issue is probably a software related issue in how they've implemented it to get the 5 stops and is something they could address with a setting added in firmware in the future. As long as you are aware of it, is something you can probably work around.
