The hardcover is durable, so despite the small size I've had no concerns nor any issues with it being crushed or crunched or bent in any bags or backpacks. Paper quality is fantastic in my opinion - I'm not so much a drawing type as I am doodling, but boy do I press HARD when I'm doodling sometimes. In the picture of one of my doodles, you can see the imprint on the back side of the previous page, however the paper didn't rip and I've never had a problem with that (in this book - other times, has been an issue). Also, despite pressing that hard, the following page isn't 'ruined' with a total outline of whatever was just drawn. Gelly roll metallic pens are what I use for the black paper, some of the more neon shades from their classic or moonlight collections show up well which is fun, and the gelly roll stardust collection pens are nice for accenting/finishing touches over the metallic or neon One more thing - love the perforations, very easy to remove pages cleanly.
