Review: GREAT READ,LEARNED ALOT! - This was the best book that I've read since reading Graham Hancock. This is not intended to be a purely archaeological study of the Gobekli Tepe site. Andrew's goal is to create possibilities of who and why they were built and tie that into humankind's early creation "mysome of those ancient humans threths". I believe that his formulation could be correct. An ancient scenario in which different groups of humans, with widely varying DNA(because some of these isolated groups had much Neanderthal DNA), created due to long term isolation in groups with no contact from other groups for thousands of years. Its been proven that ancient modern humans had interbred with Neanderthal's. These mixed people surely would have looked very different to other "pockets" of humans , had they migrated to a southern area. All Andrew has to do, is get his Theory supported by analyzing some ancient DNA from those skeletons. Anyone that reads Russian archeological studies will find that ancient humans there did have a higher content of Neanderthal DNA in them(Sunghir, in Russia, for example). So Andrew's theory might be right or wrong...but this book was very well written, had me absorbed, I couldn't put it down and "reread" much of it because I DAMN WELL LEARNED SO MUCH FROM THIS BOOK! AND HIS BIBLIOGRAPHY IS IMPRESSIVE! IT WAS VERY WELL RESEARCHED AND I LOOK FOWARD TO DELVING INTO SOME HIS RESOURCE MATERIAL! THIS WAS A FANTASTIC BOOK AND I LOOK FOWARD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE OF HIS BOOKS!. ALLTHOUGH HE DOES SUGGEST AN UNPROVEN THEORY, IT IS A REALISTIC ONE THAT COULD BE TRUE. ITS NOT SOME FAR FLUNG CONCLUSION BASED ON VERY LITTLE INFORMATION AND FACTS...HIS CONCLUSIONS ARE BASED ON AN IMPRESSIVE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AS I STATED. Even if you don't agree with his theory, I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LEARN MUCH ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THAT PART OF THE WORLD, THE CREATION MYTHS ( ADAM N EVE, NOAH,ETC). THERE'S NO DOUBT IN MY MIND, THAT GOBEKLI TEPE HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THOSE ANCIENT LEGENDS OF HUMANKIND'S CREATION AND FLOOD. BUT PROVING THE CORRELATION WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT!
Review: great book lots of good information . - very Happy this book will make me happy since i cant actually go there reading all about it & the pictures make it a pretend trip thanks richie

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Informative book; updated review
*by P***H on May 13, 2014*

The author dates Gobekli Tepe to c 9500 BC which is prior to organized farming; i.e. it was constructed by hunter/gatherers prior to "wheat domestication." See pages 38-39 where he describes the "animal remains" which were the "main food source... supplemented by almonds and pistachios." He also speculates, on page 39, that it was the construction which was the impetus for the development/advancement of agriculture due to the demands of the increased population (workers, visitors). On pages 48-49 regarding the "Triangle D'Or" (southeast Anatolia) he quotes Dr. Izady; which "went through an unexplained stage of accelerated technological evolution, prompted by yet uncertain forces." The author does not attribute the construction to alien/other-worldly influence. Dave Chapman "who has studied and replicated the way pre-historic people worked with stone" according to a YouTube video about Gobekli Tepe which I can't seem to link, states that it would take "about 50 people to move each monolith and one enclosure could take 60-70 workers six to twelve months to build. The builders used granite and flint tools to create and carve the monoliths and reliefs. I'm assuming the quarried stone is sandstone (sedimentary) which is relatively soft. Also, per ground penetrating radar there are older buried enclosures; perhaps by 2,000 years. The book is informative and enlightening when it focuses on the site itself. The photos and illustrations are wonderful! Following Chapter 12, the author speculates and opines about the builders who, at this point, cannot be positively identified. The information on the Swiderians is interesting. The author seems to imply that this new and different-looking group influenced the culture in this region. They are noted as human-Neanderthal hybrids and physically described multiple times with plates on pages 216 and 277. These depictions do not at all resemble the Mezzena individual who has been recently sensationalized as a hybrid. Disappointingly, I was unable to find any information regarding the neolithic skulls or burial sites noted for Lithuania, which would supposedly exhibit the anomalies the author describes. Per Discovery News, "Previous genetic studies have determined the DNA of people with European and Asian ancestry to be 1 to 4% Neanderthal." Dating DNA (mitochrondrial) is problematic; when did it occur? Were there other species which co-existed and/or interbred with humans (Denisovans) as well who also contributed to the genetic pool? **See recent article "Gene from extinct human species (Denisovans) fortifies high-altitude Tibetans" Reuters, Will Dunham. Not to create mischief, but this is not an Afro-centric developmental model. Also, edit needed for page 35; first line has a dupe "hundred " and page 48 has a dupe paragraph; "At a place named Kilisik..." A very helpful Appendix of "Useful Dates" starts on page 372. The book is definitely worth reading/re-reading and presents a more comprehensive historical perspective for me. Prior to reading I had only thought about Sumer, never realizing that c 9,500 BC before pottery, before the wheel, or organized agriculture, people were building these amazing stone complexes.
