I immediately realized that wasn't going to work: too squishy and the fuzzy surface slides all over the floor rather than rolling into position. So I did some research on Amazon and lo and behold--there are rubber balls for precisely this kind of thing! After looking at a bunch of different brands, I settled on Massage Track for a couple of reasons: they come in varying degrees of firmness (I knew I needed firm, but wasn't sure how firm) and the founder and owner of the company answers all customer questions himself--very personal attention to his product and customers. E.g., when someone asked a question about whether the balls could be heated, he experimented by putting one in a microwave and reported back in detail how it worked (great, apparently) and how to do it safely.These balls are fabulous. I use them on my butt, thigh, back--anywhere I have an ache or pain--using the firmest ball for my butt and the softer ones for my lower back. Some have mentioned that they're better than a foam roller. I use both the balls and my roller--they do different things.
