The main foot and heel are made from wood, it looks as if it's pine wood that's been used in their construction, there are no rough edges or sharp splinters, they are quite smooth. The main adjusting shaft is made from tough black ABS plastic with the toe spreader shaft being made from metal. The kit comes supplied with eight pressure relief plugs which slide into various holes in the main body of the stretcher, these are for the purpose of stretching areas in the shoe that maybe pressing on your toes or elsewhere causing discomfort. The stretchers do not appear to be left or right handed, they are universal and will adjust themselves to suit either left or right shoe.In use:I needed to stretch two pairs of size 11 shoes, they were giving a little pain to the top of my toes especially on the right foot. I slid the stretchers into each shoe, I then turned the length adjuster to put pressure on my shoes. I managed to exert quite a bit of pressure, there was no sign of the stretchers struggling or failing. I then turned the toe width stretcher, again I managed to exert quite a lot of pressure. Feeling the shoes I could see that the stretcher had filled the entire area and was putting pressure on the leather. I could have adjusted even more pressure on the stretcher but didn't want to overdo it or risk damaging the shoes. I left the stretchers in place for 48 hours, the end result was slightly more room in the shoes with the painful toe rubbing gone.The kit does come with eight pressure relief plugs, these are for applying additional stretch on small areas around the shoe. I did have an issue with these pressure relief plugs. There are pre drilled holes in the stretchers to allow the plugs to be inserted but these holes appear to be too small as the plugs are so tight it's a real struggle to insert or remove them, they are so tight infact that I needed to insert a knife underneath to prise them out again.Apart from the above issue I found these do the job admirably, they have now stretched two pairs of shoes that I've had for a long time but I've rarely worn due to their tightness, now they fit perfectly - Recommended!Box Contents -2 x Shoe stretchers2 x Packs of pressure relief plugsIf you have found my review at all helpful I would very much appreciate if you could click the 'Helpful' button below, thank you. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very effective, but a bit fragile. *by S***. on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2017* Since I have pretty wide feet, these stretchers have been great for adjusting my shoes to fit better. The little knobs that come with the stretchers allow you to customise where you need the most room; my little toes tend to get rubbed nearly raw with one particular pair of shoes I have, but stretching that area in particular definitely alleviated that pressure.I left the stretchers to work on my shoes for about 24hrs, and the fit was considerably more comfortable. My shoes are also less prone to gnawing on the back of my heel, too.While effective and easy to use, I am a bit concerned that the stretchers may fall apart quite easily, though. Stretching them too far, or creating too much tension, seems like it would put them out of business. So you have to be a bit careful with how far you take them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well *by L***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2018* I've been using these for stretching a new pair of leather shoes that was slighly tight across the foot. The shoe stretchers worked very well, without having to use stretching spray. And shoes fit comfortably now.The shoe stretchers are made of wood, while the mechanisms are made of iron and plastic. I noticed other reviewers commented that their strechers broke. So I took extra care in gradually stretching my shoes, in order not to put the shoe stretchers under too much pressure.
