Review: We now have five of these. - We live in an area that is just far enough from the city to get a lot of idiots dumping cats, so we always have strays and ferals around. We also live in an area that routinely gets very cold in winter. There are 3.5 crazy cat people in the house, and we've maxed out our indoor cat capacity, so we keep expanding our stray/feral feeding and shelter operations. (Yes, we also have a cat trap and local TNR options.) We've made a couple diy shelters, but these are a lot faster and easier to put together, and I really like having the heated pad. It only warms when there's pressure on it, and the temp doesn't get very high, but it's enough to help a cold, damp kitty be more comfortable. That said, we don't just drop them on the ground, plug them in, and walk away - there are a few modifications needed to make these good outdoor shelters. First, our outdoor population doesn't appear to like the flaps, so I usually leave one on and remove the other. However, snow gets in on the flapless side quite easily. Also, they're only kind of waterproof - I wouldn't trust them to resist a hard rain or a wet snow. The solution to both problems is to get a roll of reflective-foil bubble insulation and use it under and over the shelter. I place a rectangle of it underneath the house to insulate from the ground - it's even better with plywood or something under the insulation. Then I cover the top with a piece large enough to overhang the flapless entrance by several inches. The insulation is quite waterproof, and also helps keep warmth inside the shelter. I use extra-large binder clips to attach the top piece, which means the overhang can't go all the way around, but it's worked pretty well so far. Another option would be to basically wrap the whole thing in the insulation - underneath, up the side, over the top, and back down the other side. If you need to place a shelter where it can't be plugged in, adding a piece of insulation under the pad, and/or replacing the pad with a self-warming cat mat, can help retain warmth. I do recommend locating them as far as possible from high-traffic areas, so shy kitties won't be afraid to hunker down in them. With the modifications described, we've kept these outdoors year round for several years, with no maintenance other than washing the pads once in a while. The oldest one has been out there since 2017, and other than fading a bit, it's as good as new. I highly recommend these as an affordable option for those who want to help homeless kitties.
Review: A MAJOR bug attractor 🤢 - I wasn't even going to write a review on this at first because there's already so many positive reviews about it on here but after experiencing something super disgusting I felt really compelled to to give current owners of this/future buyers a heads up. I have two indoor cats and two outdoor cats. The reason they're outdoors isn't by my choice trust me because I adore animals and love helping them, I live with my dad and as you know when you live with someone you have to be courteous of their wants/needs too and he's not all that crazy about having four cats in the house (our house isn't small but not huge by a long shot) and most importantly I had my two indoor cats before I moved to my current home and found both my two outdoor cats living as strays on my property so I have to keep their needs to heart as well- four cats (as well as two dogs) in one medium sized house is a no go and wouldn't make them too happy especially my cats because they like having space. My two outdoor cats get treated the exact same and get the same amount of love and care as my indoor cats, only difference is they live outside. I live out in the country, don't have neighbors for miles and have 13 acres of land so they're safe and they NEVER get within 100 feet of the road (only have one road in front of my house but my house is about 400 feet back so it's not on right on the toad) if they even hear a car they'll hall butt back to the house to safety. Which leads me to why I purchased this. I have a garage that I set up real nice for them, so if the weathers bad anything like that i'll bring them in my garage (my cars are stored in my workshop that's a separate building) but the thing is Cleo and Mufasa (my two outdoor cats) really ain't all the crazy about each other, i'll bring them both in when it's bad but they hiss at each other and Mufasa isn't 100% calm around people, he's still somewhat skittish so getting him in the garage isn't super hard but not super easy either, whereas Cleo is the compelete opposite. So I got this for Mufasa, obviously i'll still bring him inside if weather gets super bad but on a regular basis this is fine. I set it up around 4/5 days ago, I put it in my garden against my house because Mufasa often lays in there so I thought it'd be a good spot.. and I was right he's used it a lot BUT today I passed it and saw that it had dirt and mulch in it from the garden from him going in and out so I went to it and picked it up to take the heating pad out to shake the dirt out and guess what happened? THERE WAS ANTS LIVING IN IT they actually made an ant hill underneath it! 🤢 And don't worry it gets better, I got my broom to sweep the ants off then took it apart and as I did that a cockroach came flying out after calming down I lifted the heating mat out and there was another little cockroach underneath the mat and two earwigs 🤢🤢 I immediately took the whole thing apart and threw the heating mat cover in the washing machine. So to sum things up: It works, it's good quality, rainproof, my cat loves it and it'll keep your baby warm but don't be surprised when you see disgusting bugs in there who are tryin to keep warm too 🤢 I'm really not sure what can be done to keep the bugs out it's super gross but just wanted to give y'all a heads up... nothing you can do but being prepared for the nastiness is better then nothin.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality
*by R***B on October 11, 2020*

I ordered my cat house two days ago and got it today. Upon initial inspection, the house appears to be of good quality; the external material appears to be something like heavy canvas. The structure inside the panels has some kind of rigid hardboard that keeps its shape. The house is very easy to assemble with the Velcro strips, and appears to seal well. The instructions point out that the house itself is not waterproof and does require something over and around it to keep the rain off. The house appears to be at least weather resistant. I will be centrally locating the house on my large back porch so it won't be exposed to driving rain or snow. I got the model that has a heated pad and upon testing (per instructions), it works well. The pad heats well and does not put out excessive heat. I will likely feed my outdoor cat by placing the food bowl inside the house so she can become familiar with it. I will also leave one of the clear plastic doors off for a few days until she gets comfortable being inside, then I will install the door (velcro strip). Maybe then she will learn to push on the plastic door to come and go. I'm actually placing the house under one of my porch chairs to sort of anchor it from strong winds. I had planned on using Zip-ties and large safety pins anchored to a couple of bricks to achieve this but decided on the chair for the time being. I'll see how this works out. All in all, it appears the house is a good value and should last a pretty good while. The price was more reasonable than other brands and models.
