I usually clean the whole thing with Clorox wipes. I will get all the meat scraps off, then use my finger to push a wipe inside every space I can( also using a butter knife to shove one down the recessed part where the blade sits towards the bottom of the blade area, to get out all left overs) After I have sanitized it I will take a wet paper towel over the whole thing to get off any chemical residue on parts that will contact usable meat in the future. The simple answer is, I don't dismantle anything other than the plastic parts, and the blade. The rest I just clean to the best of my ability without disassembling the whole machine. In the end, bad design for cleaning. **Q: Does this slicer have metal gears or plastic?** A: this slicer has nylon gears but they are very substantial . ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It has a metal screw in the center of the blade *by S***T on June 20, 2020* This machine is not too heavy but stays on the counter with heavy duty suction cups. Unlike all the other slicers it has a metal screw to fasten the blade, I use a penny to loosen and fasten the blade. I sliced crusty bread nice and thick but also ham so thin I could almost see through it. Next will be slicing veggies and fruit, it should work fine although I am addicted to fine knives, I may become converted. A tray that slips under the machine catches what you sliced, no need for a plate or bowl.It would be nice to have more than one blade available.Edited two days later: I made Chinese food which requires a lot of slicing veggies pretty thin. Peppers, onions, carrots, celery and even the chicken were done in no time. Next time I make scalloped potatoes I will use the slicer and when it's time for comfort food things like cabbage or root veggies they will also make an acquaintance with the slicer. I have only used it once so far but I was impressed with the results. I used it to slice an eye of round for jerky. It's very simple to use. Only downside I experienced was the effort it took to properly clean. I had tiny pieces of meat get stuck in hard to reach places. I ended up using a toothpick to get them out.
