Any problem with that? Might it protect the galvanized steel from moisture?** A: I haven't had any issues with the galvanized steel and the moisture. I would think if you leave the plastic on you might eventually put toxins in the soil from the breakdown of the plastic, but I'm not a scientist so I don't really know. **Q: Do the screws holding it together stay tight? Seems like it should have locking washers** A: The assembled garden bed has only been together for about a week, so everything is still tight. As an aircraft mechanic, my recommendation would be that some type of lock-washer be included as part of the assembly. Over time, between temperature swings, I would think that the hardware will become loose. For now I'm willing to hand tighten any looseness if it happens. **Q: has anyone laid hardware cloth on bottom? 1/2 or 1/4 inch? any need to fasten to edges in place? (around the periphery)?** A: For the people responding about other materials, hardware cloth is basically a metal mesh "fence" a lot of times it is used to build animal cages. You can get different size holes. I lay hardware cloth down under my beds to keep the voles out. Works perfect. I just cut it a little larger than the bed then put the bed on top and fill the bed. I don't use fasteners of any kind since the weight of everything holds it all down. I used 1/2 because it's what I had already. I can say it has worked perfect for 2 years. **Q: Are you supposed to peel off the thin plastic on the metal pieces?** A: Plastic is not eco friendly. I would pull off. But who knows if it’s some silica based sheet instead of petroleum based plastics. They could just mean the metal is coated and not be referring to the plastic at all. Highly recommended over a wooden raised bed. *by J***T on August 22, 2020* This raised bed is very affordable. I was initally thinking of making a wooden raised bed from scratch but after calculating the cost, I figured that it would be better just getting this galvanized one. It costs around the same price as making one from scratch and it include all the needed parts. Moreover, this should last longer than a wooden raised bed. It is made from galvanized metal and so it is unlikely to rust for a very long time. The raised bed is very easy to assemble. It is just as easy as take a screw driver and screwing on 48 nut and bolts (provided in the package). The set up is very straightforward and intuitive. The actual set up itself can be done in 15 to 20 mins... mostly because there are so many nuts and bolts. But it is very straight forward. Just screw the bolts onto the pre-drilled holes on the raised bed panels. However (and this is my only criticism), the raised bed has a very thin plastic film on all 6 metal panels. This plastic is very hard to remove. (And I recommend peeling this off before setting up the raised bed). It takes 10 minutes to remove the plastic film from each panel. 6 panels means that it takes an hour to remove it. So it will take some time to prep the bed before setting it up. But after this is done, the actual set up is a breeze and very straightforward. The bed looks thin and flimsy at first, but once it is set up, it is very sturdy even though very light to carry around empty. I also appreciate that this is a foot tall and not too shallow like some other raised beds being sold. Now, I see some other people complaining about this not being 8 feet by 4 feet. I measured it, and it is 8 x 4. I do not know why they complained that this is smaller than 8 x 4. Perhaps they were sent a different bed or an older one, but it measured up to size with the one I was sent.
