## Description

Product description ShinHan Professional Watercolor ShinHan Professional Watercolor is produced via technologies of reprocessing carefully selected pigments of the high premium qualities and blending them with a refined medium according to optimal mixing ratios. This results in more clear, transparent and vivid colors compare to other products of the same grade. Its formulation is based on the technical data of PWC, our top-of-the-line, professional grade watercolor paint brand. Perfect your work with ShinHan Professional Watercolor. 48 colors boasting perfect color balance You won’t need to worry about having watercolors that you don’t ever use with ShinHan Professional Watercolor. We do not develop colors simply for convenience or publicity. Instead, we ensure an optimal array by conducting scrupulous multi-faceted analyses when developing and adding new colors while considering the Munsell color system - which is the international standard. High viscosity ShinHan Professional Watercolor is produced using data-based scientific manufacturing technology. In order to maintain the same level of viscosity over a long period of time, the processes of mixing the pigment and refined medium is controlled at a micro level using high-precision measuring and analytical equipment. We produce paints that maintain their properties (especially viscosity) without hardening easily with years of accumulated data and exact mixing ratios. Rich colors achieved with optimized pigment density Each pigment of the ShinHan Professional Watercolor brand has an exceptional density. Due to the application of pigment atomization technology, every color contains more pigment. A uniform and balanced distribution of pigment is necessary during watercolor painting to obtain desired results. We have optimized pigment densities for even application on paper.

Review: Great for the price! - I bought these paintsto review on The Frugal Crafter YouTube channel after several viewers asked me to. I was skeptical that paint costing less than $1 a tube would be good but I decided to give them a try anyway. I paid under $26 for the set of 30 colors. I was really impressed with these paints. I painted the leaves and donuts with them as seen on the photos. Pros: Price Pigment numbers listed on tubes Vibrant colors Paints dry down well without cracking and falling out in my palette. Paints rewet easily with the touch of a wet brush Colors lift easily *they can be good for a beginner but bad for advanced artists working in multiple layers. Cons: Some pigments used are know to be fugitive (PR83, PY1, and one of the violets) Colors are a bit opaque when used at full strength making more than 3 layers of glazes problematic. Because the colors lift well it can make glazing difficult. I would rate these as a high end student paint, more vibrant that Cotman, Van Gogh or Grumbacher Academy but not a true professional artists grade but still, it's a steal of a deal and worth every penny! Happy painting!
Review: Beautiful set with varying opacity - I just completed my first painting with this set and I am very satisfied. The colors are vibrant, moves beautifully with water, and can also be applied thick and opaque like gouache. I squeeze out a bit from every tube and let it dry before using. I really enjoyed painting with this, and look forward to many years of use. A little goes a very long way! I bet when my three months old son gets old enough to hold a paint brush he will be using this very set :) Very glad I didn’t shell out three times the money for something with a bigger name - this is more than enough for my daily painting needs. Edit - after a few weeks of using these I am even more amazed. Combined with good paper (Arches) and decent brushes (princeton elite), I am able to paint images I was not able to achieve before. If I had only known that a good set of watercolors would make so much of a difference, I would have never wasted my time with all those cheaper sets. I mean - they’re not even cheaper by much! Actually, some of the inferior stuff is more expensive than these! This set costs less than a set of Sakura koi 48 or a Windsor Newton travel palette, but these colors are infinitely superior in performance. Of course it is because of the way I paint (heavy, heavy washes) that makes them so good. If you were using watercolor like gouache (without heavy washes, on dry paper) then maybe the difference between these and the other student grade stuff won’t be so dramatic.. but if you are truly painting WATER color, and don’t want to spend $15 on a single Daniel Smith, please do yourself a favor and get these. I am enjoying them so much and I can’t stop talking about them to all my artist friends :) Another thing - the way I use them is I get an empty palette with plastic pans, and fill the pans with every color. Then I let them sit for a day or two to dry. Then I paint. I don’t use wet paint out of the tube, because I want to achieve multiple light layers. This also eliminates waste. Edit- I really cannot believe this set is only 25 bucks! Wow!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these artist quality paints?**
A: This set of Shinhan paint is the student grade. If you search for crushon Shinhan PWC watercolor paint (they are sold here on Amazon) those are the professional artist grade Shinhan watercolors. I don't know why "crushon" is the way to determine artist v student grade - possibly a distributor's name. The professional artist grade paint is very good and they have a lot of single pigment colors.

Every paint manufacturer has their own name for a paint and for example, "Permanent Red" might be made with a different red pigment as the same name of the paint by another manufacturer. Always look for the pigment number(s) for the paint by whichever manufacturer you are shopping. An example: You are taking a class and in the materials list the instructor has all Winsor and Newton Professional Paint names listed. Let's say you can't find that brand but you can find Daniel Smith, Da Vinci, Sennelier, etc. brands (make sure you are looking at the professional grade paint for comparison). When you are looking for the color names on the list first find the pigment number(s) for the W&N paint and jot it down beside the names. Go to W&N's website and open another tab or window (whichever is best with your web browser) and go to the website of the manufacturer whose paint you can find in an art store or here. You'll want to keep both manufacturers sites so you can compare. Even though our computer monitors don't show the paint color with 100% accuracy you can get a good idea if you are comparing pigment numbers. Remember that one manufacturer may use a single pigment and another may use two pigments. That is why I suggest that you have both websites up to make the comparison. Hope this helps.

**Q: If I were to place an order, which version would I be getting? I was told that there are 3 versions.**
A: I ordered these because of the price. Cotman colors are $3.25 compared to $1.00 for Shinhan. I've done some pigment research and found there are only TWO material saftey data sheets for Shinhan watercolor lines. I am speculating that the 'third' version may be an old or new name designation for one of the two lines. These seem to be the 'Artist' not the PWC, more premium version. I have done one color test and like many of the colors better than Cotman. I also have Turner and Seneilier. These are worth far more than the Dollar per tube price. I have yet to do alot of mixing but am very pleased with these. I will likely order another set before the price goes up. Hope this helps. L.

**Q: How permanent are your colors and how do I confirm this information?**
A: Go to the Shinhan.com site and take a look on page 43 for exact information on this specific product (set of 30)

12 rate 3 stars (including black), 17 rate 2 stars, 1 (pink) rates 1 star -- on a scale of 1-3.
I looked this up on their site and product data sheet.
Why they couldn't include this information in a screencap is my biggest question

**Q: Do these paints dry chalky?**
A: Good morning.A very popular general watercolors 30 colors. How to use dry form is generally the same as watercolors.Due to the difference in density pigment concentration is different. Each paint. It is diluted, and you have also been.Product quality is recognized by the American ACMI.I do not know that answer. ㅠThank you.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful watercolor paints, especially for beginners!
*by A***. on May 19, 2017*

These watercolors are great!! Espiecally for the price! The colors are nice and vibrant, and there are a lot of options to choose from, if you're not into mixing your own colors. My only complaints are that they are a tad chalky if you don't use much water, and they don't blend as easily as I would like. The substance overall is a little trickier to control than what I am used to. (Although some of these results may be due to the type of watercolor paper I use. ((140LB Strathmore cold press)) And these results are also based on my own personal opinion, so the chalkiness, for instance, may be a consistency you enjoy!) I compared them to my HWC Holbein watercolors– which I find absolutely perfect for my painting style, but they can be a bit pricey. These are very similar, but for an affordable price! If you are a beginner to watercolor, and you want to try out some quality watercolors for an affordable price, then I don't think these Shinhan watercolors will disappoint you! Just a little tip: These tubed watercolor paints can be a bit cumbersome having to constantly open and close while you're painting. You can buy a cheap watercolor pan, (you can get them for about $4 at a craft or drug store) rinse all of the paint patties out, and then put your new tubed watercolors into the clean, empty pan for easy access!
