The reviews have always been 50/50 - with some claiming they work and others calling them snake oil. With hesitancy, I decided the bite the bait and purchased one for this years bow hunt. I figured if nothing else, the camo pattern and light weight would make me feel better about the purchase if it did turn out to be snake oil. One the 2nd day of bow hunting (I missed the opening day) I was was traveling about a mile to a tree I had selected for a hang-on stand. I practice scent control, so - I shower prior to the hunt and keep my clothes in a tote with a mini-ozone machine until I get into the deer woods. Once I got to my tree, I pulled out my climbing sticks and placed the first one on the tree. Then all of a sudden I head a deer blow and stomp at me about 60 yards in front of the tree; the wind had shifted and the saddle I was hunting was no longer down-wind. So there I was - BUSTED; trying to figure out if I was going to proceed with hanging the stand or move further down and pick a different spot. Then, it happened (5 mins later) - that doe that busted me had circled to my left and was now 50 yards away - still blowing and stomping. So, I took a knee and picked up my crossbow. Looking through the scope I could see that she was blowing, then edging closer - she knew something was there but couldn't figure out what it was. So, she blew and jumped forward - trying to make whatever that was kneeling by the tree to move; I did not. Once she got 40 yards away, ears up and looking right at me, I dropped her. I stood up and was thinking - "that was crazy - I never had a deer act that way. Usually there are in the next county if you get busted". As I was dragging her back to the truck I just couldn't figure it out--I had actually forgotten about the HECS suit. I figured, she just didn't get a good wind (shower, ozone, and scent killer) - and was trying get closer to see what I was. However, that doesn't match any other deer I've encountered - usually they don't care...if Its a foreign scent/human movement there gone!. Once I got back to the truck it hit me..."could it have been this dang HECS suit?" I'm a skeptical person - so I'm still not totally convinced yet, but If I have another encounter like that I will be singing the HECS praises for some time to come. There are some disclaimers here: (1) I hunt the wind & thermals - the wind was in my favor until it wasn't. (2) I practice scent control (shower, teeth, ozone, and scent killer [cover scent if needed]). (3). This was a young doe 2+ years (I feel that if I had been busted by a 3-4+ year on doe or buck, all I would have seen was the white flag waving as they dropped the hammer) - but I could be wrong. I will continue to wear the suit and see if I get a repeat occurrence. If I do, then I will be sure the post my findings. I've been watching the HECS hunting show for some time and have seen what it can do. I've always been a lover of technology and it's application to hunting and the HECS system was a must have item. I struggled with sizing but being 5'10" and 190 pounds I was undecided on a large or Xlarge. I plan to wear thermals under the suit so I ordered the XL and the fit is perfect. The suit has plenty of room and is made from a slinky kind of material that feels really good on and should help with ease of movement under layers. Actually you hardly even know it's on. The more odds you can put in your favor, the more successful you will be and leaving no stone unturned I ordered the socks to complete my outfit. I anxiously await the pre rut as my confidence level is off the chart and my Micro is ready! I was skeptical at first but just had to try HECS for myself. My first outing I had a red fox walk up to me, look right at me from 20' away, then just start scratching it's ear as if I wasn't even there. A fox always picks me out, they have great vision and this one didn't even look twice. Two days later I went out and had a deer walk out on the edge of the field and walked right past me without ever turning it's head. It stopped a couple times looking around but never looked right at me sitting right on the edge of the field. I'm impressed to say the least. Now my buddies are starting to think real hard about me having an advantage over them. LOL!
