If not, which product does this ?** A: Not sure. You might be able to if you can connect the tone generator to one end of the Cat5 cable. The signal would be very faint, at best, as this device is made for the probe to actually touch the wire. Not familiar with a tone generator that would work this way, but the Home Depot has a device that will allow you to see through walls to see what's behind it. Was at the end of my patience and ordered this toner and probe. I watched a view youtube videos on how to calibrate it and within minutes I found my problem. The tool worked perfectly. However, do NOT use the batteries it came with. Upon delivery I put the batteries in, played with it for awhile, to be sure I knew how to use. The next day I get out, ready to trace. The probe turns out, but won't pick up the signal from the toner. I was stumped, it worked 12 hours earlier. I decide to package it up and return, which meant removing the brand news batteries it came with. Opened the battery case and found one battery had leaked all over the inside. I took it out, cleaned it up and put in fresh batteries and worked great.
