Review: Great fire pit / grill - So versatile. We can use it as fire pit, make some hot charcoals and start to cook on it, just need to throw a few pieces of wood to make fire again when done eating. We can grill on commercial charcoals or wood charcoals, or cook on propane gas or griddle/dutch open. It functions as so many things. As a fire pit, it's great too. I was worried if it won't be hot enough because it's small, but it's was hotter than expected. Even better than solo stove as it's warmer on legs. Its double wall blocks wind well. The small vent works surprisingly well too. It's really nice to set up fire pit where we want because some campground placed their fire pit in a weird spot. It's easy to pack and set up. Nice looking and makes nice looking fire as well. It's really enjoyable. It has a few downsides. It's kind of small to put firewood as it is. You can still put it there, but need to be careful how to set it. Not sure about durability. I know it's fire pit and won't last long but after first use, all of inside paint was gone, second use the bottom grate was bent. I still think I can use this 5 years but it show more damages every time we use. And propane is convenient to use but also hard to adjust the heat and re-ignite. It's heavy to carry too. I'm not sure if I really need this (but it's a good addition) First we were looking at Petromax Atago. But this was cheaper, has propane and looks like Petromax copied Volcano's design, we decided to get this. For the price, I think it's a great buy.
Review: Great product, VERY versatile - This is a great product. It's everything they say it is. I also bought a cast iron Dutch oven for roasts and stews. And the heat cover cuts my charcoal use requirements significantly. Great for frequent use. Now, from a preppers perspective, using this stove with a Dutch oven makes a lot of sense. It fulfills the 3 requirements every prepper should be looking for: 1) minimal fuel use. 2) minimal cooking smells 3) easy concealment. I buy charcoal when it's on sale, end of season clearance and broken bags. For a bit $30, I have already accumulated enough charcoal to cook with the volcano grill every day for about 2 years. Heavy duty trashcans are a great way to store the charcoal. VERY economical. Of course you can cook with wood as well if grilling. I am now making my own charcoal just from fallen branches from the yard and will probably never buy charcoal again. I really never saw the point in purchasing the propane attachment, but now I am starting to see the practicality of it for some situations. Deep frying and waterbath canning would be pretty easy with the propane unit. If I get one in the near future, I will add to this review. BTW, the carry bag and compact storage are also nice features. This is not a lightweight stove. You are not going to use this while backpacking. It is heavy duty and built to last. Buy with confidence. It's a great product for regular use and will be a Godsend in a grid-down situation.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a weight limit on this stove, I'm thinking about using it for canning...any experiences with that?**
A: I have stood on my Volcano to grab something from the self before... They are extremely strong and sturdy. I have seen a blog before that they used it extensively for canning. Check out the link: http://www.simplycanning.com/volcano-stove-grill.html Hope this helps!

**Q: propane use**
A: I found the propane adapter to put out quite a bit of heat when connected directly to a 20lb tank. I believe the comments posted to the contrary might have been using a low pressure line, such that are usually supplied with RVs, I could be wrong. My experience was quite different. I had to throttle it down to about 1/4 when using it with a lodge 12" cast iron skillet cooking omelets for a breakfast potluck (lodge 12" hangs on the opening perfectly btw). But I do prefer charcoal or wood for cooking, only used the propane adapter for fire ban purposes.

**Q: Can I purchase the commonly found butane canisters from a hardware store for the Volcano stove?**
A: These don't use butane. If you are talking about the smaller green propane canisters then yes. However you will have to purchase an adapter for the propane hose that is included.
The hose that is included are made to fit the larger RV style of bottles that are 20, 30, and 40 LBS type.

**Q: Is the diameter of this grill 17 inches or 12 inches?**
A: The top grilling portion is between 12 and 13 inches. The diameter of the cook stove should be about 17 inches at the base.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Multi-tool of grills.
*by B***Y on September 6, 2025*

What a great grill/ fireplace. I've been wanting a grill for years, but have been conflicted between the convenience of propane and the flavor of charcoal. This grill solves that problem by giving both options. As a bonus when you are done grilling your steaks, just add a couple sticks of fire would and have a nice camp fire to sit around while you enjoy them. Very portable and well worth the money.
