I try bypassing the key and taking the positive to the post on the starter. Nothing. Ok, need a starter. Get the solenoid too, why not. Get the rear of the mower disassembled, get the old one off (looks suspicious to my untrained eye) and install the shiny, beautiful, untouched new one. Packaging was great, looks brand new, no complaints. Try starting it again. Nope, same thing. Ok, maybe the old one wasn't bad, but I'm not pulling out the new one. Check the battery again, voltage is great. Start tearing apart the front of the lawnmower. Get all that done, about to remove the battery to replace the solenoid. ... The negative terminal is loose. Yeah. So I tighten that. Try to start the lawnmower. WOW, turns right over! I'd say with a touch more gusto than it did before, sure, but yeah. The fault was not the starter. It was the idiot turning the key. If either the starter or solenoid go bad, I'm all set!
