It is a standard trumpet mouthpiece to be used for any kind of play, including concerts. **Q: is it better than the bobby shew lead?** A: yea in some ways and other no but remember everybodys different From my experience bobby shew jazz MP has a very bright tone and increases range all around the Lead MP intends it upward but has its limit if you try to hit high notes with to much pressure and air it would shut off on you so all around I recommend the jazz MP but like I said everyones different you got to try it for your self **Q: Will this product help to improve my range?** A: Perhaps, it depends on what you are playing now. I've been using a 1970s Benge 7C for many years. I thought I'd try something new that is not expensive just to test my suspicions that my old mpc was handicapping my range. I was right. This piece has opened up my upper range, with a reliable high E/F now, and an (at times) reachable double G, which is awesome as it will get better! I am having to learn how to adjust a bit to reach low and pedal notes but they weren't doing me that much good in section playing anyway. Currently on jazz solos it's a bit annoying to have to reset to go below G in the staff during a run. Must work on that. BUT, to have ready access to the normal range of the instrument above the staff in solos is totally worth relearning some flexibilities. Also it seems like this piece is not as tiring as that 7C, so range remains doable throughout practice and gigs. I am not going to do that endless mouthpiece safari. Because of these initial results, I'm going to work on this steadily and see how far I can go with it. I imagine I could have gotten similar results with a Lotus or Monette but what if I was wrong? I wish I had tried another mpc years ago. At least try the Yamahas before chasing the $300 snake oil. Fit: before buying, I did the homework on specs to know exactly what I have been playing versus what I could be playing.
