The calorie counter is an added boost and incentive. It does need to be on the mat provided otherwise it slips on the carpet. Otherwise, you just sit on a chair and peddle it! Easy to use and definitely helping his physio workout. He loves that he can eat a bit extra too lol! Excellent value for money! It folds away easily so isn't sitting on the living room floor between using. It's just a really good little machine at a really good price. So glad we chose this one out of the multitudes!
