It comes with different tips, to best keep it centered on shafts with different end profiles. I checked against a known accurate tach, and it seems accurate. It is very easy to use, the controls are simple and intuitive. I would give it 5 stars if it came with an extended shaft or extended tip. As it is, it isn't quite long enough to reach a couple of my shielded shafts that I want to monitor. Had to try to find an extended tip separately. In my case the shaft is recessed a couple inches from the inspection hole in the housing.
